Today, i had to get an MRI done on my right shoulder because I hurt it over two weeks ago now and the inflammation is not really going away with strong anti-inflammatory/ steriods plus rest. So, i started researching what is available options in Chattanooga. After looking at several options that all had the big bore or regular MRI machines with the long tube which is best for images I found this company: " First Look MRI" in Atlanta. A Radiologist named Dr. Gay saw the rising cost of healthcare and insurance coverage getting so unaffordable for many decided to open his own with two locations in the outskirts of Atlanta to help the gap. The cost for the MRI was only 300-500 dollars without a prescription I might add then using my own insurance in Chattanooga for 1500 dollars out of pocket with a prescription. Save 1000k? I will take it? Plus, the premium package aka 500 dollars comes with a video from the Radiologist explaining your MRI in detail everything that is going on when he looks and reads your MRI. say what? yes really. He is the first that i know of that does this in the country and will send it to you in an hour too in your email. Also, you get a cd and access portal to view at any time.
As you can see in the pictures of the facility. It is very modern, new, comfy, welcoming, and they centered everything around making the clients feel at peace/relaxed here. A defuser is always going with lavender smell in the air in the waiting room. If you have kids or family with you no problem there is an ipad or laptop computer for them to use with noise cancelling headsets to use while they wait. Knowing that I have high anxiety at times which some of you know and some don't. I decided to try the open MRI solution and see what happens. So, I drove the 2.5 hours to the Braselton location for my scan this morning. I have to give a shout out to Elizabeth the receptionist that was super sweet and nice during my checkin experience. She helped me get checked in by ipad and was thorough with explaining all the options with what will be included in my package. She also, got my providers info to send right after my scan was done etc. As I was waiting in the lobby. I started noticing how clean everything was and felt the lavender mist in the air calming me. I also, saw the coffee maker and carbonate d waters in the fridge across the way. I was kind of hungry from driving down early so I found a kind bar to eat that is complimentary. It was gluten free yes!
I didn't wait long for the one person ahead of me and my man Roberto took me back to get me setup for the scan. A big shout out to Roberto as well for listening to my concerns and reassured me what would happen during the scan /setup. He put two blankets ontop of me to keep me warm and is soothing having the weighted blankets on you. He asked what music I wanted to listen too and i was like yes I can do this. As i looked at the machine from the table the opening on the sides were huge but the space from the top to you were like a regular MRI spacing. As, I was rolled back I could look out putting my head to my left shoulder and plenty open viewing. It was so nice not having to look at the bore walls of a regular MRI. The time had come. All the noises started going. Anxiety was high but as I laid there I got more and more relaxed. Before I knew it the 55 minute scan was over and I was half asleep. I got my CD of the MRI on the way out the door from Elizabeth and was heading out.
If you have family, friend's, patients, or yourself looking for an affordable less evasive MRI approach I would highly recommend this business. Maybe one day they might put one in Chattanooga, TN....
Read moreThis is a great place. Pricing is clear and up front. The staff is exceptional, I got there early and they talked with me about my pain I was trying to find the origin for with their MRI and they really cared and offered some helpful opinions and advice. The video of the Doctor showing me his findings, and identifying important nearby parts of the images is invaluable to me. It has been so hard finding anyone to actually go over my mri, or CT scan with me so I can see what's going on with my body. This was presented professionally, and while keeping it concise it was also unhurried. I know I saved some money not going through my insurance co., But I also saved tons of time, as my ins would delay approving more than one MRI without my doctor and I jumping through various hoops and jumping hurdles. I was able to rule out one area and found one area probably causing me life changing pain and am moving forward from here and I'm just thankful for this place!
Update 12/2/2021 I am proud to say that First Look again treated me with care, compassion and professionalism. I needed it due to the intense back pain I was in, such that it hurt walking, getting in and out of the MRI , etc. They were so patient and understanding with me. And Dr. Gay's report shed much needed light on where my pain was coming from (following Xrays which the dr. said showed no changes since the last ones 6 years ago). Obviously you can't compare the detail of Xrays and an MRI, so no disparaging of the first dr. is intended. But I will put Dr. Gay's video explanation of what's going on with my back much praise. I wish it was simple like the xrays show, but knowing it isn't led me to contact my neurologist and gp who has encouraged me to go to an Orthopedic specialist. I am very grateful for...
Read moreI made an appointment with First Look MRI a couple of days ago. They were able to schedule me right away for the MRI. When I arrived, I walked into a spacious and comfortable waiting room. The staff achieved a level of kindness, sensitivity and customer service that I find uncommon in today's world.
I was only able to finish about one half of the fresh delicious coffee provided before I was called in for the actual MRI. The staff made the entire procedure very easy and comfortable. It was only a few minutes after I finished that a CD with the MRI results was given to me, with one being sent to my primary care doctor. You may request additional copies at no charge.
Later that same day, I received an eMail with 2 reports attached. First Look has a doctor on staff who reads and interprets the MRI results. The first report contained the doctor's detailed findings. The second report was an actual video file of the doctor himself doing the analysis. He shows the MRI while providing an easy to understand explanation of what he is seeing. I found it to be extremely helpful to understand what my condition was.
Armed with the MRI and reports, I was able to arrange a consultation with a surgeon of my choice and plan my next steps. If I hadn't contacted First Look, I have no doubt that I would still be running around having to jump through hoops just to get an MRI approved. This process has probably saved me many weeks and much pain and aggravation .
I would encourage anyone, especially those caught up in insurance red tape, to make First Look your first stop. you will save time, pain and, ultimately, money by doing so. All I can say is "Thank You for providing this service for...
