Do not attend this stores trading card events unless you can be there 30 minutes early. Due to unclear guidelines, poor customer service, and lack of reliability, I nor anyone else who will listen to me will ever return to Meeple Madness.
The story of my massively poor experience begins a week before I even went to the shop. I was part of Meeple’s discord server and I saw an announcement about a Magic: The Gathering event. The event was a “Festival in a Box” draft, one that I had been looking forward to since the event had been announced by Wizards of the Coast officially. I immediately reserved a spot for myself (and later my father) within minutes of the discord announcement, being one of the first to do so. I then reserved the day off from work so I could make sure I could get to the event by the time given on the sign up page: 7:00 pm.
Fast forward to the day of the event. Me and my father were sent reminder emails reminding us of the event and it’s start and end time: 7:00-11:00 pm. Me and my father headed over to the store around 6:15, and due to traffic, arrived around 6:50. Ten minutes before the event was scheduled, well within parameters…or so we thought.
Upon entering the store at and confirming our reserved spots, still before 7:00, we were approached by the owner. He told us that our spots had been given away 10 minutes prior because we had not been in the store at 6:45, and that he had had no way to contact us before doing so.
We were exasperated to say the least. Not only was he wrong in his declaration, as we had provided our emails (which were also connected to my account with the store which had my phone number) but an attempt was not even made to contact us. He further asserted that 6:45 was the registration deadline for the event. We questioned where that information was posted when signing up for the event. I displayed the email to him that I was sent reminding me of the event, to which he scrolled to the bottom and clicked on a link within what seemed to be fine print. That link brought me to a page which was not familiar from the sign up page I had used and loosely translated the micro text explaining the parameters for the events’ timing.
There was little if any apologetic tone while he was explaining this, and he ended with an unfeeling “if we had more product we would be happy to accommodate you, but there is nothing we can do.”
It was impossible to understand how a week’s worth of notice could be thrown away 15 minutes prior to the posted event start time. Not only had I sacrificed a day of work to make the event, but I was shut down in a very unfriendly way. I was especially disappointed in this unsavory experience as my prior dealings with the shop had been quite pleasant.
We left disheartened and with no consolation. I would NOT recommend playing in any event Meeple has to offer as they are unreliable, and lack clarity of communication. I hope this issue is resolved in the future for those with more patience than me, but I and most of my friend group will be avoiding this shop...
Read moreMy second visit to this place was def not the same as the first. First time I visited I was greeted by staff members and the owner and they all asked what types of games I liked playing if I liked painting and they we're very informative and friendly. My second visit, which has been over a month since my first, was not the same experience. Only one employee talked to me the entire time I was in there and I sat there for a minute at the counter waiting while her and another employee held a conversation before I had to interrupt in order to get some attention. She was nice to me afterwards but the conversation could've waited. The other employees just looked at me and even the owner just looked at me and walked past me and I was in there for a couple hours. Can't use the excuse that they were busy either cuz there was literally only 4 other people in there at any given time until about 30 min before I left, then it started to get a little crowded for what I assume was pokemon tcg. They kinda made me feel out of place. Seemed like they only cared to talk to people they knew already and their friends. Pretty disappointing to say the least. I feel like the first time they only paid me any attention because I came in with my family but this visit I was alone. I'm not saying that they should've been in my face the whole time but at least acknowledge that I'm a patron at your establishment. Can't expect me to want to come back or spend money or tell others they should go there if you can't even say hi welcome to meeple madness or ask if I need help or ask if I'm looking for anything specific or find out if I have been helped already... something...anything. Gonna give them another chance cuz I really want to meet some fellow painters and I sincerely want to like this place but if the experience is anything like yesterday I won't be going back. Here's to hoping I can change this back to...
Read moreI've been going here once a week every Tuesday and on occasional holiday parties since 2017. I usually have a lot of negative inner thoughts about card and hobby shops. Unfortunately, this isn't one of those places. There is nothing bad about Meeple Madness I can say. The shop's neat and tidy. It's very kid-friendly and offers a wide variety of board/card games.
My only big problem is the employees that come and go that I've known throughout the years. But I can't fault people for moving up and bettering their futures, so I guess the store gets a pass. Other problems also include condiments, like chips and water, not being in stock timely. (It's fully stocked or empty depending on the time and date)
Meeple Madness is the main reason why I got into Pokémon TCG which I have maintained a love/hate relationship. Love for playing and meeting new people. Hate when buying and not pulling a God pack. I first walked in there on a curious whim then exited out with the intention of coming here every week. It's gotten so bad that the owner knows me by heart. Nice Dude. Wish his laser printer worked though.
In summary, Meeple Madness isn't just a shop. It's also a community. A community that is still growing thanks to the hard work of the owner and employees working there. If you guys can, I really recommend going to this store just starting card games, like Pokémon or Lorcana.
Keep up the Great Work...
