This is a terrible example of car-oriented suburban development. I don't know who designed it, but I think it is shameful. It's right next to Christiana mall, which is a traditional mall where you can park once and happily explore the inside of the mall on foot, and this represents a "societal regression" to strip-malls and bad parking lot design where you really have to drive from one place to another. I hate it. It is not safe to cross the parking lot on foot; even though there are crosswalks, traffic moves fast and cars do not generally stop for pedestrians. There are no stop-signs in places there would need to be stop signs to make it safe for pedestrians. And my question is, why are people still building this car-oriented garbage? We have known for years that this stuff is terrible for public health. The state of Delaware also has a high rate of pedestrian fatalities, due to car-oriented development. So places like this have a cost in terms of human life too. Like I said, I think it's shameful. If I were in charge of state or county zoning or traffic laws, I would not allow such development, instead insisting on either traditional walkable-town-center / main-street-style development like you see in towns like Newark or Rehoboth beach, or a traditional indoor mall with walking spaces like Christiana mall. I hate this place, I hate too that there are businesses (like Trader Joe's) that I want to shop at that moved into this place, because it means I have to come out here from time to time. It is always unpleasant. I wish I could find the people responsible for this development and give them a stern talking to and I wish they would repent and renounce their ways and commit to never creating another atrocity like this. And I wish the same for the government officials who approved this development: I wish they would publicly apologize and commit to never approving anything like this...
Read moreI was there today and yesterday, yesterday at Pier 1, where I found the chair/footstool I was looking for online that said the item was not available ANYWHERE! Just goes to show you, sometimes you have to actually go to the store(s) to see for yourself. The store, for it going out of business, was pretty nicely stocked, considering. Today I went to Marshall's, Home Goods and Home Sense. Marshall's was alright, not too much to choose from. Home Goods had a nice variety of merchandise to choose from, a little too nice! It made you wanna buy more than you really needed! I had to pump the brakes and re-focus. There too, I found what I actually went there to get. The Home Sense store is somewhat fairly new. The store was bright and clean and had some nice items, but not as nice as Home Goods, in my opinion. All three stores' prices were reasonable, good bargains. I also went to the Raymour & Flanigan outlet store a few days ago and that was nice. That too was clean, nicely stocked and well-lit. There was a nice array of merchandise to choose from, reasonably priced, and the sales associate Marcus was extremely nice, helpful and personable. Lastly, as an FYI, Jared's jewelry store, which I visited some time ago, always has staff that is friendly, helpful and...
Read moreThey need more security! My car window was broken yesterday at 5pm in broad daylight, right outside the REI entrance! I had just bought a new computer from Christiana Mall and they followed me over and targeted my car as soon as I went inside the store. The computer was hidden, but they knew it was there since they had watched me leave the mall, and they stole it. I talked to a number of people around there and they said this has been happening more and more. Muggings, Hijackings, and break-ins to cars. One woman was mugged and her SUV stolen at 2pm in broad daylight as well. When I went back today there was more broken car glass in the parking lot, right next to where mine had been robbed, from either another break-in or something else. If they had more security presence in the parking lot, perhaps thieves...
