Came down from Lancaster County, PA to do some shopping yesterday morning and wanted to finish off the day at a brunch stop. Was considering going to the nearby First Watch, but when I learned about this place within walking distance (which was helpful as I'd just bought a slightly-too-tight pair of boots and needed to break them in) and noticing that they were open an hour later, I decided to roll the dice on them.
I took an immediate liking to the atmosphere. Nice, quiet, very clean, and as a bit of a lone wolf, it was nice to have counter seating and not have to awkwardly sit alone at a table. Eden was my server, and she was very friendly, courteous, and as a first-timer, helped me make a great choice with the Roadhouse Bacon Stack. I opted to go without the onions and tomatoes, but the kitchen staff made up for it with a good-sized handful of spinach. Props to the cook for nailing that one. Got chips and salsa on the side, and while I thought the salsa tasted fresh (no idea if it's made in-house or not), I thought it could benefit from a bit more kick, but that might just be more of a personal preference.
The last thing I added to my order was the kale juice, and while I didn't have any complaints about the taste, I didn't think it was quite worth the $7 price tag for what you get. Like the name, though. "Kale to the King." Anything that reminds me of nerdy Army of Darkness quotes can never be bad.
The only other thing worth mentioning is the bill paying system. This gave me some hassle. It involves using your phone and paying via some third party website(?). My first go-round, I got far enough to finalize my payment and gratuity (and some kind of extra fee for using their service apparently?), but it unceremoniously booted me out of the website. Each subsequent attempt resulted in a failure to get the website to work entirely. Frankly, unless it's of some benefit to the restaurant in some way, I would consider ditching this system entirely, or at least this particular one. It isn't worth troubling your customers that much.
Beyond that, though? Very pleased with the food and service and I'd happily give it recommend.
P.S. - Just learned that there's a Turning Point a mere stone's throw away from me on Rohrerstown Road here in Lancaster. Feel a bit stupid. I really need to...
Read moreI came here with high expectations, beings I was told this is the go-to place for breakfast, only to be slightly disappointed.
I started with a French Press Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend, though the staff couldn't tell me what the Jamaican beans were blended with, I expected (as with previous Blue Mountain blends I've had) nothing short of amazing. But this was lack luster, as it was bitter.
I've never had a Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee bean be over powered by a bitter coffee bean in my entire life, and I've been importing Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee beans straight from Jamaica for 30+ years, so I was kinda bummed out, but I wasn't going to let that interfere with this review. Price $9.50
I ordered the Wilbur Skillet, scrambled, and a side of smoked ham.
The skillet ingredients were, potatoes, crushed bacon, avocado, diced tomato, jack & 2 eggs your way.
It was ok, not knock your socks off, but not send you to the ER to have your stomach pumped either. The potatoes were slightly over cooked, as if they had been sitting in a pan, precooked many hours before my order. The bacon was almost nonexistent, and you wouldn't even know it was even in there if you didn't dissect it to see the tiny pieces in it, and any hint of flavour from the bacon was over powered by the red onions (not mentioned in the menu, for those with onion allergy like my wife, this would be bad news).
Note to Turning Point: please mention that there are onions in this dish to avoid any litigation from people with onion allergies.
The Avocado was on its way out, and had no firmness, basically the consistency of peanut butter.
The tomatoes were between perfect and over cooked.
The Jack cheese was hastily covered over everything, and steamed, giving it a semi slimy texture.
The eggs were the only thing that were as ordered, as they were spot on! Price $11.50
As for the smoked ham, it was similar to shaved lunch meat, that was slightly seared. Would have been much better had it been kept as a single ham steak. Price $4.30
I am going to stop short of recommending this restaurant, for the simple fact that I would have to return and try other things on the menu, maybe lunch.
Overall, Turning Point Restaurant...
Read moreI’ve visited plenty of Turning Points but this one here needs to go back to the drawing board. When I say from the moment I walked into this place I knew there would be an issue. The waitress decided she didn’t want me to sit at the table. She never gave me an option not to mention the other waiter offered to clean off be table and she insisted on me sitting at the bar. Strange behavior I must admit. I didn’t make a fuss because I was extremely hungry. I ordered while ordering there was a couple who kept banging on the table which already interrupted my mood. I wanted to move so badly at this point because the banging got more intense. Finally, he left and then the waitress with the dreads started tapping. I’m waiting at this point. They gave me a dirty glass for water. I didn’t drink out of it. They should have given them a clue however no standards.
Eventually, the food comes out. The potatoes look uncooked. I taste it and the waiter could see my reaction. I gave it a chance again. They were raw. I told the waiter with the dreads and she offers to make them extra crispy I refused. She and her coworker say no one ever complained about the home fries. Well, I did because they were uncooked! They got upset and begin mimicking. I don’t send food back for my own safety. I then cut the pancakes. The pancakes are raw with batter oozing out of them. I asked to speak to a manager because at this point I’m not speaking with the help. He was kind and offered another batch. I just ate around it. He cleared out the check and that’s why I have them 4 stars not because of the service. They need better cooks please contact Westfield. Thank you to the manger however your staff is completely unprofessional. They shouldn’t get mad at customers for wanting their food to be cooked right. They also had the audacity to say in front of me I can’t wait to clock out! Clock out now who’s...
