Before this last experience, I was going to write to say what happened to the great customer service !!! I have been shopping at Costco since it opened. They use to help you to the car if you had a crazy big item or just needed help. Load your cart so you could get items in your car easily. Well last few times. I have a shopped ….after a stroke I had two years ago. And I have 5 kids who are 9 & 6 and eat a lot …. So I had a huge cart … the person who checked me out didn’t offer to help. They ended up just giving me two carts that with my cane and issues I couldn’t possibly push myself.
So I had to go to the side repackage everything to fit into one cart it was taller than me and I’m 6’ tall. No one helped me… I was by the managers area trying to more efficiently put stuff in one cart. No one helped I was exhausted after shopping and with my stroke I get tired fast. Then at the door stuff was falling off …on my way to my car … service staff just walked by…not one staff member said let me help or get someone to help … this happened to me numerous times so I started to have my husband shop. Which means he goes to work at 4:30 am and then had to shop after working a 12 hour shift….
I was so very disappointed in what had happened to Costco. So when my doctors recommended I swim to help with my therapy. I looked for an affordable pool. I really value Costco’s return policy why after bad treatment I still was shopping there. Their prices and return policy only things keeping us there.
So when they had a pool at a great price, I was happy. But nervous how will I get it into my car pushed to my car.
But that day Johnathan K jumped in to help was so kind, found people to help me right away. He had a team help me to my car and get it in my car. So I wanted to say please bring back the better backing of peoples items at check out and the help to the car when a cart or carts are over filled.
Jonathon K manager I believe or should be… Noah Isabella Victoria Nassan (spelling) works the front door Were fantastic and fast and friendly.
I have ran companies and worked for companies and how you treat your employees and your customers matter.
I have almost stopped shopping at Costco … But your prices and return policy were keeping me there. Then the service was slipping. When I asked for sizes in clothes the workers would Just say sorry … they would open boxes and put just one size out … not open all the boxes with that shirt or pants … and put out all sizes … I wasn’t the only one who has been frustrated. I have been there many times with other customers helping find sizes since the staff wouldn’t … so I wanted to recognize those staff members who still are going above and beyond. Thank you!
The pool has helped me and all my 5 kids triplets and twins, 2 neighbor kids, 2 nieces have, learned to swim or practiced in it this pool this summer. Next I’m sure as well.
I appreciate you keeping pricing lower than other grocery chains have done. I wish I had the service I had that day everyday from the staff. I know it’s a busy store so staff is worked hard. I have been there. But before that I bought the pool. Customer service was falling off from what use to be the standard.
When I was struggling and staff saw but not one person offered to help even seeing me walk with a cane. Was very disappointing.
I hope these staff member's I mentioned get some kind of pat on the back or a free lunch or something. I use to hand out WOW awards when I ran companies. Way Outstanding Work.
Thank you, to those staff who helped me get that pool to and in my car. Smiled and made me feel like it wasn’t an inconvenience. To Jonathan K who made it all happen so quickly.
All the best, Mom of 5...
Read moreI RARELY do in person shopping, today I'm reminded why. Not the crowd or parking, but the employees. 1st strike. I needed help in the clothing area. I asked the associate, folding clothes; "Excuse me, can you help me? That is how I asked her, AFTER I said, "Excuse me" directly at her, yes looking directly at her, twice! I had to practically get in her face and wave my hand at her. This is after going up and down the aisles a couple of times. No eye contact, no smile, even a forced smile, and didn't even bother to stop for a second to tell me no, they didn't have what I was looking for. 2nd strike, an associate walking around puffing away with his e-cigarette. And, other associates just casually talking to him. 3rd strike, after I put my purchase in my car, I went back in to use the restrooms before I got back on the road for a 1hr drive back to Whidbey. Tried to go enter by the customer service, I had my ID ready. But the associate at the door said I had to reenter. Really?! I said, I'm just going to use the restroom before i get back on the road after shopping. You know, making me scan my ID at the entrance again, it's giving a false count on how many customers visits. FYI I was shopping alone, just me no one watch my paid groceries so I can empty my bladder. If I could have had what I wanted delivered I'd avoid in person shopping. Other customers were actually more courteous than these associates. I do give kuddos... The individuals serving samples, bakery staff, cashier, cashier helper, and janitor were friendly, don't know if it makes up for down right rude service though. I did get names, but figured, best to not call them out here. BTW, There was no one to help direct the madness at the check line. The last time I came in, there was one, and it made check out...
Read moreDisappointing Experience After 25 Years of Loyalty
I've been a Costco member for 25 years and have shopped at the Burlington location regularly throughout that time. Tonight's experience has left me seriously reconsidering my membership.
At 63 years old with a gray beard, I was purchasing alcohol when cashier Sarah L. demanded to see my ID - something that has never happened in my quarter-century of shopping here. When I explained I only had my credit card and Costco Executive membership card with me, she became rude and started lecturing me about Washington state law requirements.
The situation escalated when shift manager Jake was called over, who also began quoting state regulations instead of using common sense or showing basic customer service. I was forced to walk across the entire parking lot to my vehicle to retrieve my wallet and driver's license, then return to the store to prove I was old enough to purchase alcohol.
What's most frustrating is the complete inconsistency - I've purchased alcohol here hundreds of times over 25 years without anyone questioning my age. The sudden rigid enforcement, combined with the staff's dismissive attitude toward a long-time member, was deeply disappointing.
As someone who has been loyal to Costco for decades, I expected better customer service, especially given my obvious age and long membership history. The way this situation was handled made me feel like I was being treated as a potential criminal rather than a valued customer.
I hope management will address both the inconsistent policy enforcement and the need for better customer service...
