I been coming to Apple Cinema for over 17 years now even during the pandemic. My kids pretty much grew up coming here from when the seats weren't great, the floors were sticky, the foul odors, stale popcorn and screens were bad to recently when they updated the seats, screens and overall layout. We also have A LOT of family and friends that come here as well from Cambridge and the surrounding areas. I always felt it wasn't always about the money with Apple so would sometimes go twice a week knowing AMC, Regal and Showtime screens, seats and audio were much better. Over the last few years I noticed the prices have went from as low as $7 to now almost $19 for 3D, almost $16 for 2D including the $1.75 for a service fee of $1.75 and even took away $4.75 Tuesdays starting last week and now charging $9.75??
AMC offers $6.50 on Tuesdays and Showcase offers $5 on Tuesdays too. We always considered this like the community movie theater and with these new changes I can tell you we have noticed this and will take our business to AMC, Showcase and Regal moving forward. I'm sure the owner thought this was a good idea or maybe the new staff hired in the last few weeks we visited, (we noticed), but I can guarantee you this. Word spreads fast in Cambridge when it comes to what businesses we support and don't. We originally planned on taking our kids here often through the school breaks & holidays as usual. However this has changed everything. I'd be surprised if this place is still here in a few years if these recent prices are here to stay. Not angry or frustrated but more disappointing. Especially during a time where streaming services are winning. Good luck and hope it was worth all the all the money you...
Read moreI’ve been going to this location for YEARS. While the brief window they were open occurred over the summer (Covid), their manager made it a point to not only say hello, but tell his staff that I was a regular and a “chill guy who’s been coming here for forever”. It had been over a year since I had been in, as I’d moved across the country. It made me really happy to feel welcomed, and like I was back home.
The staff is amazing, the popcorn is the best I’ve ever had at a movie theatre, and the theatres themselves are an awesome blend of 90’s retro, 2020’s tech and seating, and when watching an indie film, colloquial charm.
I spent years binging on new releases, every Tuesday. 3-4 movies on my day off, at 4.75 each. I watched this theatre go from a new purchase, with worn seats and small screens (basically alone for every show), to completely packed on Bargain Tuesdays, and totally renovated. It took years, but they built my hometown theatre into something really special.
Please support this independent theatre. Many pivotal memories in my life have occurred here, and it’s a special place. Their staff are like old friends—always helpful and attentive, and familiar in a way that doesn’t exist much any more. I liked the concession stands better when they were in the middle of the lobby, but other than that, they’re killing it in every way.
And to the owners: your staff makes this place-from your longtime manager, to the brother with the long hair and beard that cleans up after us, to the trainees from our local colleges. Please take care of them. To the staff: the huge Viking with the red beard gives you his best. Hope to see you...
Read moreApplecinemas is a really great smaller local Cinema chain. I don't know a whole lot about their history, but they did recently update their seats, concessions, and ticketing to be much more modern. They also do discounted movie tickets on Tuesdays as well as a movie ticket, drink, and popcorn deal on Tuesdays. The online ticket sales also allow you to select and reserve your seat prior to arriving and picking up your tickets at the theater. These seats are limited recline but very comfortable. They are not electric and do not have leg support that also reclines in the theater that I was in, though I am unsure about the other theaters. Overall I would really recommend Apple Cinemas since their locations convenient, they have a good amount of parking, the amenities are pretty modern, and they seem to have a good spread of different popular recently released movies. One thing to note in consider about the location is that traffic can get a little complicated on the parkway. Having said that, it is definitely a walkable distance from Alewife Station. I would also recommend arriving a bit early to your show as sometimes the parking lot can get a little crowded. I think overall they have plenty of parking, but if you spend time trying to look for a spot then you may be a little late for your movie. There are also other stores in the general area, however apple cinemas is set back far enough where their section of parking is a little bit more of Their Own....
