My son’s mother passed away during Covid lockdown. I wanted to go get my son but I live in Texas so it required some coordination. Before I could get him, his aunt went to the court and requested for child support before custody was established. I tried to communicate with the court but nobody was in the office, yet they gave her a default judgment for support without resolving custody. Since Covid had been used to circumvent my parental rights, I just paid the support and didn’t fight. However, when he turned 18, I tried again to contact them to terminate the child support but was informed it would terminate at 19. I’m a disabled veteran so my income is limited. My income was not considered in the child support order and I was ordered to pay more than I get for him. The staff at this court house is terrible. Judges aren’t doing their due diligence and creating issues that it costs the father money they don’t have to fix problems they shouldn’t have. These judges are bias towards women and don’t give men the chance to be represented in proceedings. I’m not behind and never have been. I’ve gotten railroaded. Should my son at 16 commit a crime he can be charged as an adult and given life. But in the case of child support, they mandate you pay till 19. At 18, you are no longer a child. Everything about New Jersey...
Read moreI must say that my views on how things have been handled in the court room have changed. Judge Shusted is pretty amazing. Extremely fair in his rulings. I have not once seen or heard of this judge disrespecting anyone standing before him. He thoroughly listens and assesses the cases presented to him, I CAN only speak for myself at the moment. The prosecution and public defense teams seem to work well with one another. The attitudes of staff within the facility also have changed, in my opinion for the better. I feel that with more judges like Shusted hearing cases with the honor that he presents during his sessions, more individuals would approach their issues with less nervousness, more openness and more respect. I cannot speak for other judges, as it has been quite a while since I've stood before anyone in superior court. I've had many negative outlooks on the law throughout our my life. I've expressed these issues privately and publicly, but I will publicly say, the court room I've been entering has slowly changed my views for hope within certain aspects of the law. Again I'm only speaking from my...
Read moreWas summoned for jury duty for the first time a few months ago. I wish I could’ve stayed for the trial but I had to graduate college. Besides that they have a lot for your safety for jurors with a really friendly gatekeeper who cracks jokes and a shuttle to drive you around the block. I was so nervous as I was expecting the whole experience to be stricter but EVERYONE was so nice and I made bonds with people once on the shuttle. Yea I get it that it sucks to be summoned and possibly missing work or other things and you know being in Camden but people who are in the same boat being summoned makes things a little better. I realized how small the world can be as I found out people who worked with my dad and live near me and know my mom. Getting in the staff was smiling cracking jokes and professional all at once. Not to mention as well the cafeteria staff were really friendly and make good breakfast sandwiches. I also liked the fact I had an opportunity to see how the system works for jury duty and I feel better when in a few more years I’ll be...
