Staff is friendly but does not communicate effectively when issues arise.
For a multiple financial reasons my husband and I were in a position to need cancel our 6 month membership early. After sending in a letter to which I received no response, I called into our home gym. First I was promised a call back(from a friendly member of the staff but still) which I did not receive. After waiting two hours for a 15 minute call back I called back in twice and finally got someone on the phone and was either hung up on or got disconnected. Ok I think, I’ll just go in. Upon arrival, a girl explained to me that they could freeze my membership to avoid further charges and that I would be able to cancel a week before my scheduled end date. She said it would be easy and I could just call in at that time and to ask for her. (Sept 8th 2021)
Flash forward to this week. I call in and was then told that I needed to call between 9-5 when the operations manager was there. Ok, fine.
I do that and was informed I could not cancel over the phone and needed to come in. Ok fine. I go in only to be informed that I now must pay an early cancellation fee because the “6 month term” was meant to be collective and not linear. (Meaning 6 months total not January through June for example.) I was told this was written in the contract. I checked and I can’t find it in there unless it is described under the legal jargon that is difficult at best to understand.
So I pay the fee which I don’t have only to find that my husband is listed for some reason under a second and separate account and that I now must pay an additional fee to cancel his membership… when I opened the account it was a family/ household account so I have no idea how or when that happened but there it is. Another fee. Amazing.
To say I am disgusted doesn’t begin to cover how needlessly frustrating and complicated this whole process was. I would NOT recommend signing up at this gym not only because of the complete lack of clear communication between the staff, but because of the misleading information given to members and mishandling of account information. (I’m really curious how we ended up with two accounts instead of one when we checked in under my account the whole time we were attending the facility…) Not to mention their inflexibility to help those who are facing unforeseen financial difficulties during one of the most turbulent financial crises of my lifetime.
Your literally better off saving yourself the headache and just splurging on a home gym or utilizing one of the many parks or trails...
Read moreMy journey began in October of 2016 when I was training for my first 1/2 marathon. I developed cold air asthma after moving to PA and decided I was not going to let this get the best of me. I never thought I could really do a 1/2 marathon but it was on my bucket list of things to try so here goes nothing....either I’m going to live or die trying.
I began walking outside late summer but now that it was the end of October I knew I needed to be able to increase my speed on a treadmill in a gym. This landed me at LA fitness with Junior putting me through my first training session. I knew I had a lot of work to do after that Sunday morning. I realized how out of shape I really was. I am not a runner nor have I ever run before in my life. In high school and college I was into gymnastics and weight lifting, never running. This was uncharted territory for me.
I decided I had nothing to lose at this point by signing a year contract for training. My goal was for them to get me through my 1/2 marathon and I would stop my contract at the end of the year.
I did go through a couple of trainers before poor Drew got stuck with me. It has now been about 20 months that I have been training with Drew, so much for my original plan!!! I completed 4-1/2 marathons in a year. Over the last two years I have also completed 5 - 5k’s and 2 - 10k’s in between the 1/2 marathons. Drew has pushed me every step of the way, he built my muscles so I became faster and faster. Over the last two years I have shaved over 5 minutes off my race times. I tell him my goals and he has helped me achieve them. We are currently working on reducing my body fat percentage and building muscle mass. He has picked my diet apart to help me achieve the results I want. I will say that it works much better when you listen and don’t try to do it your way. Consistency has been one of the key factors of me being where I am at today. There are many times I could have given up, many days I would have rather gone home but, I went to the gym instead. I always feel better after I leave the gym. There is a sense of accomplishment when you see the muscles developing, the weight you are lifting increase, and the pounds slowly coming off. I have a goal and I am not giving up. Thank you Drew and all the trainers for your support and...
Read moreI don't really know where to begin. I'll just start by saying: I love LA Fitness, it has become my home away from home. All of the staff are amazing, friendly, kind and supportive. One particular staff member that I had the pleasure of working with, was Justin Edward's. Justin is very kind, friendly, and attentive to my needs and concerns relating to my physical fitness and physical discomforts that I brought to his attention during the Complementary Assessment. I've had experience with other Fitness Centers doing assessments with me, for my physical fitness, which was supposed to be tailored to my physical concerns and limitations, but, this time it was different, because I came away confident and hopeful, which was rare. Maybe they didn't take me seriously, but, I felt Justin took me seriously and he really wanted to help me achieve my goals relating to my overall health. I feel I can accomplish the goals that I've set for myself; to age with dignity and grace. Justin's process showed my various exercises that will not only eliminate some of the pain that I had been experiencing, but, also ways that I can use the exercise equipment to support, strengthen, and protect me from injury as I do my daily task at home, which is important for many who choose to age at home and stay active for as long as they can. I left the session feeling inspired, encouraged, motivated and with a plan and visuals in hand. Oh, and I just love the hot tub, for relaxing, stress relief and pain management...LA Fitness is a very healing and healthy atmosphere, the people that I've met at LA Fitness are kind and friendly, too. It has been my favorite place to practice Self-care. The staff don't mind answering questions, either. Thank you LA Fitness, staff and thank you...
