Unfortunately, the cancellation clause is the only reason why I'm leaving a 1 star. 3 years ago, I had a membership with CTF and only attended the gym once during that entire time. No big deal. I still paid the entire years' worth of membership. I canceled 14 days after the last payment was taken out. I thought this would be the end of it. but I was mistaken. The following month, CTF charged my card again. I called to see what the issue was. thinking it was a mistake and an easy fix. I was told by the owner that since I didn't give him 30 days' notice. he was going to charge me for an entire year again..... I could understand charging me for another month. but an entire year?? I tried to tell him I was never notified about the cancelation terms. He then told me I was wrong. and that he trains all of his employees correctly. so, he knows for sure I was told. I refused to pay even under threat of him sending it to collations. I felt like I was being robbed. What kind of Business owner takes advantage of people like this? I would have gladly paid the extra month and been done with it. Trying to make my pay for another year was insane. Would have been nice to work something out at the time. but he would not budge. The Owner has a superiority complex unfortunately. Or he did at this time 3 years ago. This gym is well liked by the community as said by the owner below. but there still are the select few who have had bad experiences. unfortunately, it is too late to fix this due to him sending it to collections. which I was only notified about recently. Hints why I'm writing this review.
Update: I'm Just replying to the Owners answer below.....I understand you probably don't remember what happened. since it was 3 years ago. And I do agree. if bills are not paid. the usual action is collections. But in this case. You were upset with me and tried to make me pay an additional years' worth of Membership. I received in the mail a copy of my membership paperwork that I signed all those years ago. and in that policy. it says Must give 30 days' notice or be charged the same membership as you had. I had a 1-year membership that I paid for monthly. I did give a 14-day notice. I remember you calling me due to me being behind on my last payment. and I told you I wanted to cancel, and you told me, I had to come in to sign a form to cancel and pay my last bill. Then the next month you called me again to get me to start payments again because you were trying to charge me for another year. Which you know, isn't fair. But at that time, you were mad and only wanted to hurt me. You had been pretty nice to me before all this. But you were definitely not nice that day. You were definitely going to charge me the whole year just because you could. I'm sorry if you don't remember this. But I remember well because it was a very distressing day. As I said above. You keep saying your well liked. I'm sorry you have to keep saying that every time someone has a bad review. But in this case. I didn't. You might be very well liked by your community. But...again, there are some of us who have been treated unfairly. Not trying to make you out the bad guy here. Just trying to get people to read the contract before signing. Otherwise, you will use that...
Read moreWent in for a quick tour a little over a month ago. Sean was super helpful and inviting. After some thought about price, I joined the local Planet Fitness to save some money as I form the habit of going to the gym regularly before committing to CTF. After less than a month of going to PF and based on the 15 min or so I spent in CTF for my tour, I can fairly confidently say CTF has much more to offer in terms of environment and equipment. I’m looking forward to trying out the 3-day pass soon to really compare the two and make a more long-term decision. I will update my review after really testing out the facility and all it has to offer. Can’t wait! Update: I finally went to CTF for a workout. Nothing against the facility or staff, but I ultimately decided it wasn’t the best fit for me. The equipment is sufficient if not a little dated. The basketball court is a nice touch as well as the fitness class room which is open when classes aren’t in session. There’s a sauna and bike room as well. The staff is friendly. I also liked the fact that most patrons seemed to go in to workout and leave. No dilly dallying or strutting around like many do at places such as Planet Fitness. With that said, the price difference is too significant for me to ignore and just doesn’t fit my budget right now. I currently pay $10/month. Hard to beat especially for someone like me who can go during less busy times of the day. Paying 3-4x what I’m currently paying just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for me since PF covers the basics and gets the job done. The equipment also seems to be newer and in better shape at PF for the most part. However, if you have the extra little bit of moola sitting around, I do suggest considering CTF. I’m sure the classes are worthwhile for some, and outside of PF, their prices truly are among the best in town for what they offer. If you’re looking for a personable, hometown feel, CTF is the gym for you. I think they’re also adding an indoor pool to their facility. So that’s something else to consider. When you’re shopping around for a gym, at least give CTF a try. I imagine it’s a bit more exclusive (less busy) than other places and truly does have quite a lot to offer if you’re interested in the...
Read moreI attended this particular gym for roughly a year and a half through an employee account that was unfortunately altered by my employer (edit: partial reimbursement), so I had to seek another gym more in-line with my budget, but my experiences with Carmel Total Fitness were on the whole positive (though limited to mornings).
Pro's: Mornings are an excellent time to go - not too crowded and you'll get a shot at most equipment, though there are some hot-ticket machines that go quickly (could use another Smith Machine or two). Staff is (mostly) friendly, helpful, and attentive to needs and/or concerns. Quite a few regulars who are friendly, but not intrusive (I'm the type of person who is in there to get what I need done and get out). You generally won't be bothered, leered at, or judged. Didn't work with one personally, but often overheard personal trainers being extremely helpful and supportive to their clients. Equipment and facilities were clean from what I observed; never had an issue. Solid selection of amenities, including sauna, tanning bed, and front desk is well-stocked with drinks, locks, bottles, protein bars, etc.) Cardio equipment has personal televisions built-in which makes steady-state cardio far more tolerable. Classes are included in membership from what I understand, and while they can be sporadic due to attendance/participation, that's always a bonus.
Con's: There were some on-going issues with openers sometimes not showing up. If something breaks, it can take a while to get fixed (not necessarily their fault). Parking can be a beast while construction has been on-going, but progress has been made, and it should be better once it's completed. Wiping down/sanitizing rules weren't always enforced.
It's not perfect, but overall I'd recommend this gym if you're serious about putting your time in (I left 80 pounds of an overall 180 pound loss there, so you get what you give), if the environment vibes with you, and if it's within your budget. My time was definitely...
