If you are thinking about hiring a home automation company, you might want to reconsider hiring Premier. I hired Premier to design, install, and configure a Control4 home automation system. In addition, they installed a Savant Power Management system.

Control4 System

While they have decent experience and knowledge, their lack of project management expertise was evident at every stage of the project. The design had little to no real documentation. They struggled to coordinate with other vendors (electricians, general contractors, etc.) during implementation and failed to provide post-installation documentation. I recently spent nearly $2,000 fixing undocumented “ghost” wiring—ceiling fans were wired to the lighting panel, yet no fans were shown in the Control4 interface.

Savant Power Management System

A complete bust! They have little experience in this area. If you’re investing in Power Management, you need someone who truly understands electrical systems—like an engineer or, at the very least, someone with electrical expertise. After working with Premier and struggling with the system for over a year while trying to reconcile my energy usage with my Duke Energy bill, I emailed both the project lead and the CEO for answers. Their system was underreporting power consumption by 35% compared to Duke Energy. I received NO response. I hired another Savant partner and spent over $800 resolving the issues. The system now underreports by only 4%, but due to the lack of documentation, addressing that final discrepancy would have been cost-prohibitive.

Final Thoughts

Overall, my perspective on Premier is that they excel at sales but lack essential project management skills and technical expertise—especially in Power Management. They consistently missed scheduled appointments and communicated poorly with both me and other vendors. There are better options available for hiring a Control4 or Savant Power company...

Just had Premier Group upgrade my media room TV to a new 98” Sony and add a slick, new planar 2 turntable. Very pleased! I had them do all of the connected network, security, lighting, entertainment, and more when I bought and remodeled a home five years ago. They installed Control4 to tie it all together. Since then, I have them come back once or twice a year to consider what else I should add.
