Horrible Experience at LIDL – A Culture of Discrimination
I’m writing this review after yet another instance of harassment at LIDL, particularly at this location. As a long-time customer, I’m appalled by the consistent, racially charged behavior from staff that clearly points to a larger, deeply ingrained culture of racism within their managerial practices.
Today’s experience was especially upsetting. While shopping in the steak section, I was deliberately made to feel unwelcome by a white male staff member wearing a button-up shirt with loose gray, curly hair. Instead of simply asking me to move my cart so he could stock meat in the refrigerator, he aggressively maneuvered his cart behind me, nearly hitting mine. It wasn’t until my friend warned me to watch out that I was able to move in time. This man then stood there, hovering over us for at least five minutes with an unnerving smile, showing clear intention to intimidate. Despite having the option to work elsewhere in the section, he continued this behavior, further exacerbating the situation.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been harassed here. The lighter-skinned biracial male who frequently monitors self-checkout is equally problematic. He consistently targets us when we purchase larger items like water or paper towels, questioning us about codes, while white patrons go unchecked. His behavior is both offensive and humiliating, given that we’ve shopped here for a long time and know how to use the system. To make matters worse, his insufferable body odor adds another layer of unpleasantness to the ordeal.
These incidents, coupled with repeated experiences of racially biased treatment, make it clear that LIDL tolerates, if not encourages, a culture of discrimination. This is not acceptable in 2024 or any other time, and it’s disheartening to see such behavior...
Read moreSince this store opened in November it has become my go-to for groceries. It's very similar to Aldi, but a little nicer inside. It reminds us of grocery stores in Europe, which I'm sure is not a coincidence.
This type of grocery has just one of everything. You won't find Skippy, Jif, and Peter Pan. You will just find peanut butter. But their labels are actually rebrands of products you know. For example, their ketchup tastes just like Heinz (sorry Hunts fans).
If you do go, I highly-recommend getting some peanut butter cookies. They are soft in the middle and excellent. The sugar cookies are also excellent. The chocolate chip are OK, but not my favorite.
Revised in May, 2022 Perhaps it's due to the various supply-chain problems, but this is no longer my preferred grocery store. Gone are the peanut butter and sugar cookies that we enjoyed. I often cannot find the sandwich bread I prefer. I often cannot get plain hamburger buns. They no longer carry long pasta like spaghetti or angel hair. I do still really like the fresh rosemary bread as well as the rosemary focaccia.
When I go, the meat coolers are usually pretty sparse as well. It's sometimes hit or miss whether they'll have skim milk.
The wine and beer selection is good. There is a good selection of a lot of things, including their weekly rotation of "stuff." And by "stuff" I mean things like cheap tools, leggings, bathroom scales, etc. But this is often a frustrating place to buy groceries. I also find that I don't use my rewards very often anyway, so I'm better off going to Aldi where they do have...
Read moreI’ve been shopping here for almost a year. Good sales and very professional staff However today I’ve had the worst experience with an incompetent arrogant smart mouthing woman who was remiss in her duties as a cashier and then started criticizing the customer. She gave me all kinds of excuses and all of them were so discombobulated. For example When I asked to help me with my groceries she complained she’s worried about covid I explained I’m fully vaccinated and boosted. She said she is not. A She checks out a hundred people each day but worries only when asked to help return the items because she forgot to prompt me to insert my phone number for the sale prices B what kind of idiot worries about covid but is not vaccinated 18 months after the vaccine is available ? Then instead of apologizing for her incompetence she claimed that all cashiers do the same thing. No madam. You may never remind your customers but everyone else does. And they are all very courteous and helpful with people who have health problems and need their help. But one rotten apple can spoil the whole barrel So sorry Lidl but the enticing sales are not going to compensate me for this unprofessional and unpleasant attitude. There’s an ALDI just around the corner with very similar overall offers and excellent...
