First and foremost, I want to say that I’ve loved this bagel shop since moving to the area. I’ve brought visitors here and even ordered food for them because I truly enjoyed supporting this place. Unfortunately, today’s experience has left me with a very bitter taste, and I’m unsure if I’ll be returning. I placed my order and waited patiently. When I heard my name called, a white woman with blonde hair, who had arrived over five minutes after me, jumped up to grab the bag. There was no confirmation of her name, order, or receipt… just a “have a good day!” I approached the counter to ask about my order, since I had just heard my name. At that point, the staff began to panic, realizing they had given my food away. One of them told me it was a “mix-up in the kitchen,” but I had just watched him hand my order to someone else without checking. Instead of apologizing directly or correcting the situation with care, I felt brushed off. I’m a paying customer, and while I understand that mistakes happen, the lack of acknowledgment or accountability made me feel dismissed. I’d hate to assume racial bias, but I cannot deny that the experience left me hurt and uncomfortable. A man who claimed he had an online order walked in, skipped the line, approached the counter, and loudly demanded his order. The owner was very polite and told the man he has to wait in line. The man then began a tirade, while getting loud and threatening. The man claimed the owner was just talking to him like that “because he’s blank” and “he was the wrong one to talk to like that”. The owner kept his composure and again stated that the man had to wait in line, just line everyone else in the store. The owner handled it very well, despite the individual trying to claim race bias and cause a scene in the middle of the breakfast crowd. Some people are so disrespectful!! The owner should not have been subjected to such treatment from an obviously angry and confrontational man. That individual will probably go online and cry wolf that he was treated poorly, despite the fact that he tried to start a fight. I would have given 5 stars about the bagels alone but I took two away because I feel that the male owner never seems friendly at all, and needs to be more customer service oriented. Another reviewer mentioned about "expensive cream cheese" they DO charge a bit too much to add cream cheese, etc. I asked for some butter for my bagel after the fact, because I had forgotten, and was told to pay .54 cents for it!!! I did, and was given a pat of margarine for that, not even real butter! I thought that was a bit chintzy of him; he could have made it complimentary. Their bagels may be good, but bad customer service will still turn customers off in the long run.
