Aldi's is a German owned company that also owns trader joes. The bassist for their stores is to absolutely minimize labor and keep costs down. They restock by putting up entire boxes of items oh, so they don't have to spend much time re stacking items.
The cashiers work sitting down, so that they can efficiently pass the items through the scanner or on the scale to be weighed. Customers put their items on the conveyor belt, which takes them to the cashier. There seems to be no division of labor, so anyone can be a cashier or a stalker or be someone sweeping up.
They do not have a wide variety of items, but they tend to have at least one of whatever you need. Their prices on produce are good, often times lower than at regular supermarkets.
Their egg prices are very low, usually, but I've noticed that the shells tend to be fairly thin. That does not affect the taste.
Fresh & Easy came into California and opened up a whole bunch of stores, but it was not successful. They tried tocompete with regular grocery stores, and the southern California market is one of the toughest in the nation. With the recession and competition, they had to pull out.
Aldi open up first in the Midwest, and worked out their kinks there. They have an interesting way of handling shopping carts. In order to use a shopping cart, you need a quarter. You in search the quarter into a slot, and it releases the cart from the others so you can use it. When you are done shopping, you bring it back and reconnect it. That gets your quarter back.
They have a number of store brand items and I'm not a huge fan of many of them, but they are adequate for what they're sold for. They also carry many national brands.
For a quick place to buy groceries, Aldi's is excellent. Their produce prices are generally low, and their prices in general or two, but often times you can get a better deal at a supermarket or a big-box store, like Costco, but you don't have to buy a large number of one item, like you do at Costco.
interesting lie enough, they will often times carry patio furniture, tools, kitchen gadgets, and other household items. I bought an 8 lb sledge Hammer there for less than $10. I also bought a stud finder for $12 that works better then the expensive ones.
My best score there was a pulse oximeter, that measures the amount of oxygen saturation in your blood. They hadn't sold well at about $20, so they had a close out 4 $3 a piece. I bought one for myself, and one for my brother-in-law.
All in all, all these is virtually a small supermarket. You won't find everything there, but it's much better than going...
Read moreI've been disappointed the last few times I've shopped there. Background:. I lived in Europe for many years and there were Aldis in Helsinki, in Barcelona, southern France and, of course, Germany. Wherever I lived, I had my local Aldi.
When I moved to the States in 2018, I was very pleased to find Aldi here. But since then, maybe COVID had an effect, the store has gotten messier and unkempt. The employees don't care, if product is strewn about or items don't have prices on the corresponding shelf. Yes, food prices have surged, Aldi no longer is an option for quality, economically priced food. Some items rival Ralphs. The only items worth going there for now are milk, eggs (that's iffy), cottage cheese, sliced packaged Swiss, Provolone, etc. It seems it's the only place that sells Braunsweiger (liverwurst). As well they should be being a German grocer. It's unfortunate that they don't carry more items from Central Europe. They don't need to compete with the myriad of other grocers in town selling tortillas, etc. Offer something different. The fresh pizza in the produce area is one of the best store bought pizzas I've ever had. I'm a native NYer, so that's saying something. The price for a true large , thin crust cost $5.50 in 2019. Now it's $7.95. Still cheaper than getting a frozen pizza from Vons or Walmart. Plus the quality is very good. You simply pop it in the oven for 12 minutes and dinner is done. I was used to the whole putting a coin in the shopping cart so you'd have to return it, but the parking lots here are bigger than the ones back in Europe. I suggested that they create a cart return station in the parking lot so people wouldn't have to schlep it back to retrieve...
Read moreFirst I want to say I love Aldi and their products but today has me with a weird feeling about the store all together. Today on September 5, 2024 I pulled into the pick up delivery spot to pick up my groceries. My phone had died and I realized that there was no number on the sign pole so I went inside the store to let them know about my pick up. As I’m talking to the cashier to let her know, I’m here for a pick up order. She gives me the most disgusted look a person can give someone. as if I was wrong for coming in to get my groceries. I walked out and went to my car and proceeded to wait until my groceries came out. I see a man with a Aldi shirt coming out, and I was ready to interact with him and receive my groceries. he did not acknowledge me at all. He didn’t say a word I spoke to him and he ignored me. He proceeded to put my groceries in the trunk. All of my groceries were tossed around, falling out the bag. All my bags were ripped. I was a little confused about, the service I received at this Store. I’ve read other comments that spoke on racism and I sure hope that Aldi is not allowing this. Is Aldi a all inclusive...
