BUYER BEWARE. Absolutely horrified at our recent experience at this Ace. My mother just returned from this store in TEARS from the way she was treated by the manager Sy. A disgusting display of disrespect. She had to beg me not to go to this store to say this in person so I had to settle for warning others not to ever go here unless you prefer to be yelled at and berated after spending thousands of dollars. We purchased about 10âdifferent large power tools for christmas that brought us well into the thousands of dollars range. Accidentally we doubled up on one of them. When my mom brought it in, Sy yelled at her saying âIâm not returning this for you, you bought this from our competitor online- that costs us money- why would you do that?â. First, this makes no sense, ACE is ACE and we made sure to do it from the Costello branch because âshop smallâ. He continued to berate her in front of other customers until an employee underneath him said âcan we just help get her money backâ which thankfully that employee managed to do after 30 minutes because no one knew how to work the system. Including the manager. Needless to say, I have returned the other power tools and cancelled my membership with ACE and have instructed my entire family to do the same.    Read moreUpdate 11/19/24: ONCE AGAIN Costello Ace hardware fails to deliver. Same story, different day. When you own 12+ stores you really only care about the bottom line and not the customer. Today, I went to my local Ace for a simple round thermostat (the app says "in stock") and guess what? Well, you know the rest of the story. One more "star" removed. Off to Home Depot.
Update 10/2024: Mr. Costello does not care about the customers. Went on the app and logged in to the Chester store. The app showed the item in stock at the store. Made a special trip to the store. And guess what? None in stock. This has happened to me about half a dozen times in the past year. The very pleasant associate said this is just the way it is. Tried to shop at a local store, but why bother? Off to Home Depot.
Friendly staff, a little bit of everything for the home but, remember Radio Shack (sure you do). You needed that cable for your stereo and you needed it now. You walked on down to Radio Shack and they had the cable but at 5x the price of another store that you could not walk to. That is Smith's Hardware in a nutshell.    Read moreI had a really rough time when ordering an item as buy online and pick up in store. Not the stores fault, it was the company. I finally got them, and my grandfather wanted 3 more. I went back to the store, and they only had 1. No biggie, so I ordered them online to ship to my home. When they arrived, one was the wrong color! I went though corporate to have them send a new one or find one in the area for me. This store was supposed to have one on hold for me, but corporate gave them the wrong number- again, not the stores fault. So Rich the store owner ordered me a new one on the spot and had it put on his next truck. When it arrived, he offered to drive it to me at my job so I wouldnât have to drive the 40 minute drive out there. He hand delivered it, the right one, and I couldnât be happier. Thank you Rich!
