When I took my son to his first Cubs game in 2014, we stayed in the Swissotel right next door to this fire station. In the morning I went for a walk and as I was walking by, I noticed a fireman outside getting some fresh air, so I went over and talked to him. We're from a small town in Iowa, so I wanted to know about what it was like to be a fireman in a big city and as we were talking, I mentioned how much my 6 year old son loved firetrucks and he INSISTED that I bring my boy over for a tour.
We had great seats behind the Cubs dugout the night before and we even left with a foul ball, but I think those firefighters at Engine 13 were more memorable than the Cubs game was. 2014 was a tough year for them! I'd recognize that fireman anywhere if I saw him again but I can't remember his name for nothing. They let my son and I slide down the pole, but right after that they got a call and within minutes they were leaving in a hurry with sirens blazing.
