I guess when you're paying $33 per person and you have over 70 people with you, they'll turn you into a big game of Jenga to keep your money. The boat was overcrowded and the seats were all broken. The tour included an excellent view of the underside of a highway underpass as we went away from the river and towards the lake. The locks were cool for a minute. Too bad we probably spent more than several minutes in them. The rest of the highly sought after "river" tour took place on the lake. Thankfully I had my music to save me from Judith's insanely dry history lessons. I honestly learned more from the nine minute movie in the Willis Tower. I then got to see Judith publicly shame several passengers including the man who paid for this "river" tour and his boss. She claimed that the extra conversations distracted her but that's exactly what needed to happen. The captan wasted our time by stopping in the middle of the lake to eat snacks while Judith decided to give a public speaking lesson. She had a student talk on the mic and then broke down everything she was doing wrong without providing constructive criticism. Judith should take some tour guide lessons because I'm pretty sure I could have done a better job. If I wasn't on the boat with my friends and advisors, I would have taken my chances and hopped off the boat to the sanctity of the shore, free from Judith's tyranny. There are several other river tour options, don't take this one. The free food was the only redeeming quality however the lake may be a better option than the "Starbucks" or...
Read moreDISAPPOINTED! We took the Architecture Cruise. And our total experience was spoilt by the fact that we were seated in the LOWER DECK of Ft. Dearborn Cruise. I mean, we have to look above our heads through out the tour and why do we have seats in the lower deck!! I was puzzled. We were not able to relate any information provided by the Docent in the upper deck to the building as we were sitting in the lower deck. During the tour, I observed all the other providers of the similar tour didn't have a seat in the lower deck. Not sure why City Line Cruise has those 20 seats in the lower deck.
For most of us who are visiting from other states - its an one time opportunity and I had high regard for this Cruise but now I had to return disappointed. In-fact, this tour is the only lower point from our 3 day itinerary.
Yes, I could have got seated in the Upper deck if I was a little early but I am not speaking for myself.. its for those 20+ souls that are seated in the lower deck even if I was early. I sincerely feel City Line Cruise reads this and gives some thought about the seats in...
Read moreI’ve done this tour twice now and the quality of the true comes down to the guide. The first one was in the summer of 2018. We had a young tour guide who was AMAZING. She was clear, funny, descriptive, and knew so many fun facts. She focused on the architecture but only provided information people wanted to know like why it was built this way or how the design incorporates Chicago. My second time was this past week and we had an elderly lady. She was nice and looked like everyone’s favorite grandma but mostly focused on who built the building which wasn’t really something we cared about. She didn’t point out a lot of the stuff we learned on the first trip so we started sharing it with our guests. Such as the Boeing building architecture, how people used to rollerblade in the Groupon building, the corncob apartments, and the Champaign building.
Overall, I’d recommend you do a arcitecture tour in Chicago it’s just going to be hit or miss based on...
