Punished for having a high tolerance. I started going to D4 when I moved into the area about 4 months ago. I found the staff friendly and thought the food was good. But today, I experienced something I've never experienced before in my whole adult life of drinking at bars. I was not allowed my last drink at last call. The bartender who I had even become friendly with said "at their discretion" they felt my last drink would be overserving. I was drinking prosecco, not hard liquor. And I wasn't exhibiting signs of intoxication, let alone tipsyness, yet they cut me off. I'm actually writing this after leaving there. I wonder if they'll do the same for the super drunk people who will most definitely be there next week for St. Paddy's. If I were slurring my words and incoherent, that would make sense. But to just decide by amount... that I haven't heard of. I have a high tolerance to hard alcohol so my tolerance to wine, which is on average 13% abv, is even higher. I've only seen this happen to people who have clearly had enough. I even let them know I wouldn't return if they were going to go this route cause I could've just bought myself a bottle of the same prosecco for much less and drank it at home. They still denied me the last glass of prosecco. It's unfortunate cause I've seen the same person serve obviously drunk people before: a drunk guy that even harassed me one night at this bar. They claim they were looking out for me, but I feel like they may have had to open a new bottle and didn't want to at the end of the night. If they had told me that instead, I would've understood, and they would've avoided losing me as a regular customer. Since I was drinking by the glass, the cost of how many glasses I had already exceeded the cost of a full bottle by a little over $20. Yet, I had not even had enough glasses to equal a bottle. I was happily patronizing a local business over drinking at home and saving a bunch of money. So, the attempt to gaslight me into thinking I'm drunk has left me incredibly disappointed, embarrassed, and a little hurt. I sadly won't be returning nor ordering takeout anymore. I hope that the bartender learns to judge better.

Came here for dinner before a show. We had the Pulled Pork Sandwich, Grown Up Grilled Cheese, both served with fries, and I had Sauvignon Blanc to drink. The environment has a cozy, warm feel with a fireplace burning close by to our table which was nice to have when we visited as it was cool and raining. The staff were friendly and very attentive without seeming overbearing. Stopping by occasionally to make sure that everything was still fine and seeing what they could to assist. Service was also relatively quick as it only seemed to take about 5 to 10 minutes for our food to arrive. The Pulled Pork had good flavor and was very well done. I enjoyed the housemade sauce and the chipotle slaw was a nice addition. This on a brioche roll was a way to truly please this visitor. The Grilled Cheese also had a lot going for it with a few minor missteps. The presentation was lovely, short of the Grilled Cheese appearing as two halves stacked on top of each other which almost made it seem as if it were a club sandwich. This would lead to the sandwich being a bit damp where both bread slices met in the stack, as well as the bottom slice. A blend of three cheeses: gruyere, Irish cheddar, and smoked gouda in between two slices of sourdough is already off to a tasty start. The arugula was nice and refreshing if not for being put on a little heavy-handed. Along with that the tomato jam was very good and could have been used a bit more to help balance the overall flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would recommend checking this place out if you happen to be in the area. An could even be worth a walk around the north side of the city.

We walked by this neighborhood joint at least a few thousand times and have finally decided to give it a try. The interior has a very classic look, tall ceilings, buttoned leather seats and very spacious. The outdoor space is also quite inviting since it is mostly in the shade. Service was on point, no complains. While the bar menu is suitable for an Irish pub, a lot of selections at reasonable prices, the food quality on the other hand, was a bit disappointing and left much to be desired. The cheese curd was ok, the battered was light but the seasoning was heavy. There is almost no need to dunk it on the jalapeno ranch dip, it is fine just by itself. The Cobb salad ingredients were fresh, crispy chicken, but the dressing was too heavy, maybe some people enjoy a mouthful of dressing for every bite, but not for us especially with bleu cheese on top of it. The short rib nachos was probably the most disappointing. There is only about an ice creame scoopful of meat in it, you have to dig around the nachos to find a few threads of short rib and they were dry. The short ribs were not the only thing that was dry, the beans and pico ingredients were also dry. Imagine if you take a fresh order of nachos home and put it in the fridge over night, this is how it looks next day. The guac was ok. Finally the schnitzel, I have had really good pork schnitzel both in the US and surely in Germany. The meat is supposed to be fork tender with crispy breading. The schnitzel breading here is good, but the meat is not tender whatsoever. Overall, it is not impressive. Or maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. 😔

I made a reservation for three people at 2:45pm on 9/6 via OpenTable. I saw on the website that due to COVID, reservations were recommended and thought it would be great to sit outside. When I arrived with my guests, the hostess told me that there was no reservation under my name and the outdoor section was closed... Ok, a little odd considering the fact I received a confirmation email from OpenTable that my reservation was accepted. Not sure why outdoor dining was closed during the pandemic, but whatever. There also were only two other tables there when we arrived. We ordered our drinks, starters, and meals all at the same time. I ordered a french onion soup and sandwich and the waitress asked if we'd like the appetizers to come out first to which we said, yes. My friend's appetizer came out first but not my soup. I gave it a few minutes before I finally decided to say something. The waitress says, "Oh, they didn't bring it out? They must've forgot it." Ok, I get it mistakes happen, but stop making excuses and just go get the soup. I began to get extremely irritated when I waited ten more minutes and still no soup. A bunch of Chicago police officers came in to eat in uniform. The waitress completely shifted her attention to the two tables of cops. She didn't check in on us at all since she was preoccupied with the police officers. When my main course arrived, I told the waitress that I didn't want the soup anymore. She made a face at me like it was going to be ready any second (like I already hadn't waited twenty minutes). Sorry! I don't want it anymore. The food was actually really great, a lot of flavor and good portion sizes. Nobody ever checked on us to see how the food was or if we wanted any more drinks. Nobody even came to refill our water glasses!!! This waitress literally wanted nothing to do with us and she made that clear. After we saw her bending over backwards for the police officers, we were pretty disgusted. There is no excuse for poor service especially when the restaurant isn't even busy. This girl was so lazy and other employees were just sitting around. The customer service in general was horrible. I'm not cheap but I do think the soup should've been on the house for the inconvenience. Now that I think of it I just wanted to get out of there so I didn't even read over the bill. I'm kicking myself because she probably forgot to take it off. I was a server before and this honestly was the worst restaurant experience that I've ever had. I'm so disgusted with this establishment. Shame on you and your horrible customer service. Train your...

I have been a patron of D4 Irish Pub and Cafe in Chicago, Illinois for over a decade, and I must say that my experience with this establishment has consistently been exceptional. One standout feature that has kept me coming back time and again is the unparalleled quality of their chicken tenders.

As a parent, my kids are quite the connoisseurs of chicken tenders, and in the past eleven years, we have never encountered a batch as delicious and well-presented as the ones served at D4. The attention to detail in both flavor and presentation is truly remarkable.

The tenders are cooked to perfection, boasting a crispy exterior that gives way to tender, juicy chicken on the inside. It's clear that the chefs at D4 take pride in their craft, ensuring that each bite is a delightful experience. The flavor profile is exceptional, leaving a lasting impression that keeps us coming back for more.

What takes the chicken tenders to the next level is the incredible dipping sauce, which I believe is a remoulade. Whatever it's called, it's a pure delight and unlike any dipping sauce I've ever had for chicken tenders. The sauce perfectly complements the tenders, adding a layer of complexity to the flavor profile.

Moreover, the presentation of the chicken tenders adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience. Whether it's the thoughtful arrangement on the plate or the accompanying sides, D4 goes above and beyond to make sure that every aspect of the dish is visually appealing.

In addition to the outstanding culinary experience, the ambiance and service at D4 contribute to an overall enjoyable visit. The friendly staff and inviting atmosphere make it a perfect place for families to dine.

D4 Irish Pub and Cafe has truly mastered the art of crafting the perfect chicken tenders, and their exceptional dipping sauce makes it a must-visit spot for anyone seeking a delightful dining experience. I wholeheartedly recommend D4 to fellow food enthusiasts, especially those with a penchant for exquisite...
