This June marked my 5-year anniversary living at 500 N Lake Shore drive and it is really hard to summarize what an amazing experience it has been. There are so many great things about the building from the views, units, amenities, lakefront and the list can go on but what truly separates it from other places and what has kept me there this long….is this people. The staff Is amazing from the people at the door, the porters, maintenance staff and management…they go above and beyond to provide the best possible experience for their residents. They pay attention to every little detail especially on the amenity floor to ensure that “Luxury Living” it way more than just a tagline used on building brochures. Over the years, I have looked at every new building in the area and I always came back to 500 N Lake shore drive because of the views, the people and they truly created an experience that can be defined as luxury.
The units themselves are gorgeous and provide plenty of space but for me it was all about waking up every morning to sweeping views of the lake and city. It may cost a little more but being on a high floor with a view of the water will create an experience you will never forget. I probably have over 1000 pictures over the years of stunning sunrises/sunsets/lake phots that look like something out of a magazine. The 12th floor amenity space speaks for itself…do a tour and you will once again see the true definition of luxury living. Top notch grills, private space to host events, an amazing pool and hot tub that allows you to have a front row view of the fireworks twice a week in the summer. I used the pool deck/event space more than anyone and it is another reason why I have loved the building so much. Because of the relationship with Equinox, the gym is amazing and has plenty of space for a great workout…..also remind yourself that you can roll out of bed and be on the lakefront and Riverwalk.
The neighborhood is great and has become more resident friendly with the additions or target and whole foods the last few years. The building has also done a lot the last few years to bring even more services to the building from meal delivery to car washes.
If you are looking for the true definition of luxury living, this is the place for you and keep in mind that one of the best parts of the building are the people/staff. Very few times in life do high expectations get exceeded and this is one of them. I am so grateful for the staff and the experience they have provided me the...
Read moreMy husband and I have called 500 North Lake Shore Drive as our home for the past nearly six years and we have loved living here. If we weren’t moving out of state, we would probably live here for another six years.
500 LSD is in the heart of the city, the building is magnificent with the entire glass structure, and the views of the lake and the city are astonishing. However, even though the building itself is breathtaking, that is not why we have called this place home for so many years. It is the people who work here, that have made us feel like we are at home.
Vincent, always happy to help and assist and never did I have to remind him what our apartment number was. Immanuel always asked if we won our volleyball games when we got home from the beach all sandy. Edward always smiling (and I know you are smiling behind the mask too) and taking the time to learn how to properly pronounce my name. Lorenzo, getting me an elevator without the need to ask for one and noticing even the small things where he could help when others didn’t.
Roman, Chief Engineer of the building, came to my rescue after hours and hang our very heavy wooden wedding picture up on our wall, so I could surprise my husband with it when he got home. Carmen, always teaching me Spanish and asking how my family was doing. Natalie always ready to assist – no matter what the email was about – and having that open door policy to come and talk. And everyone who works in the building; Lashanda, Fernando, Ronald, Juan, Gregory, Maria, Vanesa (and I apologize if I forgot someone) always with a smile and ready to help.
The people who work in this building will make your day. No matter in what mood you are in, they will brighten it up and that is why we have loved to live in this building for so long. Yes, the amenities are nice, the views spectacular… but it is the people, and we will miss you all. Thank you for our years together and we wish you all the best in the years to come. Please know that we will miss you, a lot.
With love and...
Read moreThe good: By far the best on-site gym in Chicago. Friendly front door staff Walking distance to Navy Pier Other great amenities such as the pool and common area The addition of Amazon lockers Updated units and appliances Very seldom do I hear neighbors above me 4 Bus stops right outside. Lobby doors are locked at night. Need Key to get in
The bad: This is by far my biggest pet peeve, it is very noisy if you get a unit adjacent to Lake Shore. Makes for a major problem trying to sleep - had to purchase 2 white noise machines and even that doesn't solve the problem The removal of Internet and cable from rent. You now have to select a provider rather than it being included in rent. The removal of the ability to pay rent online. Now you must use the clunky app When an item is not in an Amazon locker, it either a) sits in a public space in the mail room or b) sits with the doormen. You can also have the latter packages delivered to your unit by the doormen but don't expect delivery the day it arrives. It happens once or twice a week in my experience Not quite near the L. Although it's relative, the nearest L is the Red Line about .7 miles
Overall experience: 500 N Lake Shore is a great luxury living. However, I am critical in the sense that I enjoy a seamless user experience and this is where they fall short. The transitioning to having to submit my AT&T bill every single month for a credit on my rent as well as having to use the clunky app has driven my score down to a 4 star (would love to give a 3.5 if possible). The noise is also a huge issue for me.
Please note that this is my experience and yours may differ completely. All new residents will not be required to submit their bill, your new unit my not be as noisy as mine, and you may love using the app. The building is great and the people...
