This is not my first time taking a boat tour to discover a city i’ve done it in Houston, New York, and Miami but I can honestly say that in Chicago it was the worst experience I’ve ever had (at least with River City Marina). The boat itself is great: very well equipped, nothing to complain about. The captain and the other crew members were all very kind. But and it’s a big BUT the guide we had (I believe her name was Hillary, a French-speaking guide we had on 08/25/25 at 2:00 p.m.) was extremely rude and unpleasant throughout the entire trip. And let me tell you, we weren’t the only ones who went through this. After checking the reviews, I realized that this same problem with this guide goes back to 2023/2024. She has ruined many people’s trips before and she’s still doing it! I was traveling with my wife and our little daughter. At the beginning of the trip, our daughter was restless, so my wife stayed downstairs with her until she fell asleep so as not to disturb anyone. Then she came back upstairs to sit with me. During a short pause, I quietly whispered two words in her ear to point out a nearby monument. Immediately, the guide stopped her presentation, looked straight at us, and said: “Stop talking, you’re distracting me.” My wife calmly replied: “We’re not having a conversation, he just pointed out the monument on my left.” The guide snapped back: “No! You’re talking, stop it!” We were shocked by such unprofessional behavior. She interrupted the entire presentation just to try to humiliate us for a simple whisper? We reported the issue to the captain. Before that, we even tried to speak with her directly, telling her she should at least learn basic politeness and how to ask things kindly. Her answer, in French, was: “I don’t care.” She was not open to discussion, extremely condescending, and completely unprofessional. Throughout the tour, we noticed she acted this way only with certain types of people. I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but her behavior came across as discriminatory she was harsh only toward certain passengers, who eventually felt uncomfortable and went downstairs. We also ended up moving to the lower deck. As I said, I’ve taken boat tours in other cities, and never were the rules so strict or the guides so hostile. You can’t seriously expect people to stay completely silent for 90 minutes without even whispering especially when we asked the people sitting behind us if we had disturbed them, and they confirmed we hadn’t. They also told us she was simply unprofessional. Something really needs to be done: either train this guide to learn the basics of courtesy, or replace her altogether. People have been complaining about her since 2023/2024! Not everyone bothers to leave a review after a bad experience, but what she is doing amounts to public humiliation and intimidation. As a side note, we should have known from the start that it wouldn’t be pleasant: she began her presentation by criticizing the other guides on the neighboring boats, calling them boring and saying she would do much better. Basically, she presented herself as superior and dismissed everyone else as incompetent. In the end, it was pure arrogance: she talks excessively, acts condescending, and makes people feel...

Read moreIf you’re visiting Chicago (or even if you’ve lived here for years) the Chicago River Boat Architecture Tour is an absolute must-do. I recently took the 75-minute cruise and was completely blown away by the breathtaking views, fascinating stories, and, surprisingly, how much fun I had thanks to our incredible tour guide, Michael. The tour winds through the heart of the city along the Chicago River, offering up-close views of some of the most iconic and beautiful architecture in the country. Skyscrapers rise on all sides, and seeing them from the water gives you a whole new appreciation for the city’s design and history. It’s like seeing Chicago from its best angle. But what really made the experience unforgettable was our guide, Michael. He didn’t just rattle off facts—he brought the city’s history to life with humor and energy. His knowledge of architecture was impressive, but what stood out most were his hilarious cow jokes. I didn’t expect to laugh so much on a river cruise about buildings, but he made it incredibly engaging. His personality kept everyone entertained from start to finish, and you could tell he genuinely loved sharing Chicago’s story. The boat itself was comfortable with plenty of seating, and the open-air design made it easy to take photos and enjoy the breeze. Whether you’re into history, architecture, or just want a relaxing ride with great views, this tour checks all the boxes. Overall, I really enjoyed the Chicago River Boat Architecture Tour. It’s informative, scenic, and surprisingly funny—especially if you’re lucky enough to have Michael as your guide. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to experience Chicago in a unique and...
