My friend wanted to go to Chicago for her birthday and Aroma Labs was one of the activities she was most excited about, but the experience ended up being incredibly disappointing. She booked a reservation for three about a month ago for 3:20, and we arrived about 15 minutes early. Upon arrival, we were greeted but before even being taken to our table, we were told that we needed to âspeed up the processâ because they had a âvery large groupâ coming in at 4:00. We found this to be pretty rude, especially since no one had contacted us to see if we could come earlier. But hey, at least we got there a bit early.. or so we thought. We sat around until 3:35 until the employee finally came back to our table (in the meantime she had been working on making products for another group I think?). She quickly ran through the process, showed us how to put the oils on testing strips, then left. She didnât help us along or give us any suggestions or anything. So we got through going through the steps and the three of us decided on our blend, but were disappointed in the lack of instruction. Then when it was time to purchase, my friend whoâs birthday it was selected the 30ml. After, she was told that there wasnât any of that size available. Why was it an option to select then? That was what she wanted - the bottle to be engraved, but didnât want to have to purchase the big one. She was very unhappy about that and felt like the experience she wanted was cut short in yet another way because she couldnât get an engraved bottle unless she super splurged, which wasnât her plan. We all ended up just getting the travel size. Then finally, at about it 3:55, the employee came back and asked if the last member of our party was âabout doneâ because the big party was coming in. This was the first time she had checked back and there was only two people who had showed up for the âbig party.â All the way around, this experience left such a bad taste in our mouth. Bad customer service. Minimal guidance. We were rushed. And we couldnât even buy the products we wanted. Only giving a 2 star because the scents came out nicely. Would...
Read moreThe Aroma Labs Chicago provides one of the most uniquely interactive and genuinely fun experiences, whether youâre looking for an intimate date activity or seeking something different for your next girls night out!
Johnna provided step-by-step instructions on how to go about creating our own scents and even sat with me, patiently lending her expertise to tweak my final blend until it was just right. She also walked us through the MANY product options that our custom blends could be added to: wearables such as roller bottles, beard balms, brown sugar scrubs, atomizers, etc. and items for your spaces like room diffusers, diffuser vent clips for your car, room sprays, etc.
I ended up going with a 50mL atomizer, roller bottle and shower frosting - a different fragrance in each. The prices were very affordable - I spent only about $20 more for ALL 3 of these items (created with my OWN custom scents) than a 50mL atomizer of my favorite fragrance sold at Sephora. I also love the memories I was able to make with my husband - he really enjoyed the experience as well! Lastly, I definitely appreciate that my blends are saved under my account, because I know I would forget. I can also order refills online that can be shipped to me, since we live a few hours away.
Thank you Aroma Labs (and especially Johnna) for an...
Read moreScent has always been important to me for the more than 6 decades that I've been on the planet. I have different ones for work, for fun, for travel, and various others. I'm very particular: I know what I like and what I don't, and most of what's in the department stores doesn't tickle my nose. (Lately, I 've gravitated toward Le Labo and Frederic Malle.) So when my daughter told me that she saw a TicTok of a perfumist celebrating a new roll your own shop in Chicago that had been in NYC and Paris and was missing here, I was totally in to a father daughter super fun experience. And it absolutely did not disappoint. We chose a 90 minute slot and used every second. There were 4 types of scent, each with 10 in it. Both of us had so much fun mixing and sharing, and the scent docents (what else would you call them?) were knowledgeable and super helpful. The ultimate surprise? Totally reasonable pricing. It was clear that many joining the experience were having the wonderful time that we were. So thank you TicTok perfumist for alerting us to a...
