The tour was useful, informative, and didn't take too long so that you'd start thinking, "when is this going to be over?" - a useful 10 - 15 minutes, plus, you get to bury your head in big glass bowl of hops and inhale.
The gift shop has a large selection of trinkets to useful home items, pint glasses, clothes, hats and bike racing jerseys in vibrant SN colors (Whaaaattt?!). I put those items in my rental car and went back inside for the main attraction, the Pub. I sat at the bar and somehow 3 pm became 8 pm. The bar tenders told me I was what they called "A Shifter" - someone who's there for their whole shift. I dunno, I bumped into SN Pale Ale 6 or 7 years ago at a meeting in Reno, and started finding it all over Virginia when I came home. This company is a great success story, sticking to its principles of uncompromising quality hand crafted brewskis that don't taste like dishwater (Budweiser, Coors Light, etc take note), all done in an environmentally efficient as possible, which I don't think of when I'm downing a pint but is a good way to go.
You can taste every beer they have on tap easily, as they sell nice sized half pints for only $2, so you can sample all their on-draft beers 8 oz at a time quite economically.
I'd wanted to visit for years so when I had a conference in San Francisco in August 2008 I went out 2 days early and drove out quite easily, arriving mid Saturday afternoon, so I saw the late lunch/afternoon/take a break from shopping crowd and after they exited the local clientele came in for dinner and began leaving by the time I wrapped things up. The bar group are a great group of pros and easy to talk to, and you can easily get to know some local regulars at the bar as they come and go over 5 or 6 hours. Honestly, where did the time go?
Don't second guess yourself, go ahead and make the trip, the drive to Sacramento and north to Chico will show you a colossal agricultural and rural side of California you may not have seen before.
Yes, I did have a sausage plate, very good, as are most things on the menu the...
Read moreFirst off my burger and beer was awesome.. got the Terence 50, it was amazing. My friend had some good allergies and they were very helpful with getting her a good meal that was suitable for her. My wife left her phone there and we didn't realize it till we drove 2 hours away, the manager Meilani (I think that's her name ) was super helpful in assisting us with the recovery of the phone, she went out of her way to help us. It was my first time there and definitely not my last. It is our new favorite place to eat when we drive...
Read moreThe beers we had were delicious. I enjoyed my fish and chips for dinner. I was not a fan of the malt vinegar. Our waitress was rude and inattentive. She acted annoyed to be working the entire time we were at dinner. It’s disappointing to have such a terrible server with a good meal. I don’t even think she told us her name. We will be giving the brewery another chance. Hopefully we get a more personable...
