Most hotels are fine, with some a lot more than others. Once in a long moon you encounter a place, or should I say, an individual, that takes it upon himself to make your stay nothing short of brilliant. That is exactly what transpired in our 6 days, 5 nights stay at the Oxford Suites in Chico, CA. First of all, the property is in such an ideal location that made all affairs that brought us to Chico, a breeze. Most restaurants, big stores, freeways, or should I just say, freeway? at the closest proximity. Upon arriving, and being very hungry, we went across the street to the IHop to have a late lunch. While the two lovely traveling companions finished their meal, and to make their lives a little easier, I moved our vehicle from the IHop parking lot, to the Oxford Suites, and proceeded to check our party in. The front desk was where I first, and then the rest of the group of 3, met Mr. Chris Johnson, Hotel Representative Extraordinaire, no exaggeration on this assessment. He signed me in, gave all pertinent information required to get the maximum enjoyment of our stay, and from that moment until we left, he always seemed to be around to make our stay double special. Personnel of this caliber is very hard to find, for most might initially go out of their way to be specially nice, but Mr. Johnson had nice in his DNA, a truly caring, helpful, and accommodating guest relations beacon of light. Always a friendly smile, fast on his feet, ready to go the extra mile if and whenever approached, to the point that we would talk about how nice of a person he was just about every time we finished our busy day. The property is in prime location, as I already pointed out, and this must be noted: since we were going to be at the local hospital visiting a patient, they offered a nicer rate, not to say that others will not be able to find good rates, for I checked before I called, and there were nice rates. The room we had was on the first floor, and close to the exit door, because of the kind manipulation of Nicolet? who took our reservations, and once I mentioned Big Mama was traveling with us, she made every effort to provide us with the ease of the accommodation. Beds were nice, sheets were clean, bathroom had all the amenities and then more. In our room we had 2 Queen size beds, a sofa area with a perfectly good desk for internet activities, if so desired, microwave, small refrigerator, and plenty of attention to detail to make, even demanding guests like ourselves, very satisfied. Yes, there were here and there, one or two small issues that were promptly attended to when brought up to the front desk attention. Big Breakfast greeted all who found it in their hearts to wake up during service hours. Just about anything our little hearts, and big appetites desired. Plenty of room, plenty of different things to eat, certainly a deal good enough to skip lunch if so desired, and concentrate on dinner later on. Also they have like a gathering around 5PM till 8PM, where a light fare, plus spirits such as wine and beer, plus bottles of water, are gladly dispensed to those who like to gather, or even meet total fellow travelers. I am already writing a book, but I will say this one last time: Mr. Chris Johnson specially, made every effort to go out of his busy way, to attend to call them whims, requests, necessities, etc., with the friendliest smile, and the ultimate class exhibited in all his actions. I even asked him one time, if he was upper management, to which he smiled, but not condescendingly, and said he prefer working the front. I been in many places around this beautiful world of ours, and his treatment elevated the property, whatever some shortcoming could have been, to a stellar...

I’m extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism and accountability at this hotel. During my stay, I accidentally left behind a Dyson Airwrap (complete with the dryer wand and attachments, all packed neatly in its black storage case on the counter). I realized shortly after checking out and immediately called the hotel. I was told that housekeeping would be notified and that I’d receive a call back the next morning. No one ever followed up.
I called multiple times and was eventually told the items had been found and that a link would be sent for me to have them mailed back. When the package arrived, the black case was tied in a trash bag, and inside I found only the attachments — the most valuable part, the dryer wand (along with one attachment), was missing.
What followed was a frustrating, unprofessional series of phone calls. Every time I called, I was promised someone would get back to me. At one point, I was told by an employee that the housekeeping manager, Maria, had personally packed and mailed the item herself and confirmed everything was there. When I asked how the main piece could be missing if she personally handled it, there was no explanation. I continued to follow up — making at least 10 calls over a span of three weeks — and was continually brushed off.
When I finally did speak to a manager named Kenta, he repeated the same line: that Maria said all pieces were included. I asked again how this could be true when my dryer was clearly not returned. He said he’d look into it again and call me back — that was the last I heard from him.
Throughout this entire ordeal, I was met with broken promises, dismissive attitudes, and zero accountability. I even encountered a front desk agent who hung up on me after I asked when a manager would be available.
As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry, I find this level of service completely unacceptable. At the resort where I worked, guests were always called back promptly, and any lost item — especially one of this value — was handled with care and transparency.
The Dyson dryer is worth over $350 and appears to have been blatantly stolen or mishandled. I intend to escalate this further through corporate channels, but I would strongly caution anyone against staying here. If you value your belongings and expect even basic follow-through from hotel staff,...
Read moreI had a HORRIBLE experience here and do NOT recommend. I was referred here by a co-worker as I was coming in to stay for 8 days on business. The hotel had construction equipment blocking most of the parking lot which forced you to park and have to walk in the dark to the closest door. There were many homeless around and this was incredibly unsafe. The lights were few and far between. Once arriving and checking it, I was definitely treated differently. The person before me was greeted with warmth, offered an explanation of services provided and even cookie. I was just smiled at. I was given my key and conversation or even explanation of where the elevator was did not occur. The room was grungy. The tv was smaller than my computer monitor. It was very outdated. I was put in a joint room which I got to spend most of the time awake, afraid the neighbor would get into my room. They kept beating on my door and attempting to gain access, despite my confrontations. I attempted to get some sleep but was awaken to intense breathing issues as my room began filling with smoke. 1 of the 4 rooms around me was smoking so much that it came into my room and began an asthma attack. I am highly allergic to smoke and was choking at the smell. I got dressed and went to the management to which I was told "hopefully they check out and leave, I can't talk to them at this hour anyways". I went to work and came back to find the smell was full in the hallway. As I was waiting for my food order, the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. Well, some of us evacuated. The hotel staff didn't even evacuate nor came outside to tell the rest of the situation. We were out there about 45 minutes in the cold before we gave up and went back to our rooms. Fire dpt. never arrived. My hallway was full of smoke and I couldn't take it anymore as I would end up in the hospital. I spoke to the front desk again to which the lady informed me that I could just leave and would still be charged for the night. I packed up and went to check out with a different guy which took quite some time to check out. I went to the new Hampton down the road and was treated so much better. This hotel charged $60 more dollars a night than Hampton and was so trashy. Don't waste your money. The customer service is a joke and they don't care about the health and safety of...
