Willow Creek — Local services in Chimney Rock

Super excited to go into this store but not so much after we entered. First we were not greeted when we walked into the store, the man behind the counter was having a conversation with a customer...fine. The story he was telling included "little black boy at the school" which had me more aware of the conversation. He continued his story and often mocked an uneducated person by using specific slang and accents that I tried my best to tune out and and get through the store. The conversation continued our entired time in the store and finally I could not stay any longer as the words got increasingly racial. I told my husband to put back what he had in his hand and we needed to leave. Sir, please be aware of who enters you store...one of the things you said was I dont care what race you are but clearly you are lieing yourself. Maybe it was a story you were repearing but it's not ok! Do better. Thankful my biracial niece is at an age where she does not pay...

We went over the weekend and the older man behind the counter was incredibly rude and condescending. The first red flag was when the woman in front of us started her order with “Can I have-?” and his interjection was, “MAY you have?” So we asked for a caffe latte and he told us no, they only serve lattes. Since the menu advertised coffee drinks, I confusedly asked if that meant they couldn’t make coffee with milk and his snarky response was, “That is what a latte IS,” as he rolled his eyes. Technically he is incorrect since ‘latte’ simply means milk and ‘caffe latte’ is the full term for a latte that includes coffee, but we were not going to participate in his battle of semantics and don’t really appreciate condescension when trying to correctly order a beverage, so we left without buying anything. We had a great experience. It’s a very cute shop with typical touristy stuff but also local items. It has a coffee shop and they sale chocolate truffles. That seemed to be our purchase. So far they have all been great. The young man that greets you is really nice and funny. Very helpful. He gave a recommendation of the banana split truffle as it was his favorite. I’m not really a fan but we added one on. I should have bought more! It was delicious!! We really appreciated the level of effort that this gentleman put into making you feel welcome.
