I have been here four times now. The first time was to look at shotguns for Trap and Skeet. Their selection was very limited for long guns. They had no over unders. Their selection for pistols is larger. Though I will say that in the area, I have not seen any Fire Arms store with a large selection. This decision could be market driven. I think they had mostly self defense geared guns and some 22s for target shooting.
I went another time to buy ammo and wanted to buy cases, but they only sold me max 5 boxes which was much less than I had expected. The 22lr boxes were small, like 50 rounds. There is only one store in the area in Yonkers where I was able to get 525 round boxes.
I picked up ammo twice. The first time I ordered from a third party so I got shipping and the ammo was ready in four days. Pickup was a breeze, even with the NYS background check. I was the only one in the store.
The second time I decided to order off their site. Unfortunately you do not get tracking when ordering off their site and have to wait for a phone call. I expected delivery to be similar to when I ordered from a third party. I was wrong. I tried calling multiple times to check on my order and got no answer. I finally got through and they said to try the next day. I called a bunch the next day and no answer, so I drove over to check. I found them completely overwhelmed with demand as there was a long line of customers. This explained why they were not answering the phones. When I eventually got up they didn't have it and checked the order and said I should try the following week. I did get a call the following week to confirm they got it. I showed up to the store and they were inundated again.
My other issue is parking is metered and depending on time of day can be hard to find.
I have to say the positives though. Everyone on staff is very knowledgeable. Most of my complaints are a tribute to their success as they have so many customers.
Feedback for consideration:
Going to give an honest review here. The people are good in customer service, however the couple times I have visited they've been getting audited by the ATF so the owner (Denise?) was busy and the two guys working the front of the store seemed stressed out.
I'm a LEO and came in to get a blue label Glock. I decided to buy two Glocks for the price of $485 each. I have bought 4 blue label Glocks before and never paid more than $425 plus tax, however that was when I resided in the state of Missouri. I figured it was a little more in NY. I asked if they could help me out a little on the price since I was buying two and the owner said "definitely not" and instead gave me 2 free sessions at the gun range downstairs.
I went to work the next day and one of my coworkers said he went to a different shop not too far from there and told me he bought the same gun I did for $450 and he got a two month membership to their range for FREE.
Basically, I could've saved $70 (enough to get Glock factory night sights on Amazon) and four months (not two sessions) of range time.
I visited Olinville shop (the other shop) and they seemed more friendly than Smoke n Gun and their prices are much better (their yearly membership costs $150 vs $295 at Smoke n gun, not sure why). Safe to say I will be taking my business to Olinville...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas looking to buy a pistol, so I went to Olinville which a friend recommend to me for the blue label blocks. Iām a military police officer for over 13 years, have recently got my LEOSA staring Iām a DoD Law Enforcement Officer and can legally purchase pistols within city limits. I go to Olinville and tell the employee Iām interested in buying a pistol, he asks who Iām with and told him, showed him my credentials. He looks at it for 3 seconds looks back at me and says ānopeā. Just ānopeā and stairs at me without explaining anything at all until I finally broke the silence and asked if he knew what the license was....
He continued to be rude to me as if now that he thinks I canāt buy a gun there Iām just wasting his time. Well it would be nice to know if he couldāve said Iāll check for you and get back to you or something along those lines but he just stared at me half the time as if I was an idiot.
Another friend of mine also recommended RTās. I walk in and was greeted much differently as if my service was wanted and they were very knowledgeable on the LEOSA license and had an extensive knowledge of firearms as well. I would highly recommend them in the future for anyone looking to purchase aby firearms or...
