I was very disappointed, to say the least.
I was very excited to go to Squiggy's as a family member of mine always raved about how he loved it when he was a kid. From the moment my friend and I walked in, we felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. There was a younger gentleman there who said his boss was out, which was an absolute shame because whether or not the owner is actually of sound mind, my experience has been tainted by the younger employee. While we were browsing he kept shoving his way past us to put things away, almost annoyed that we were even looking. As we flipped through a Harley Quinn comic, he shoved another one on top of the one that was in my friend's hand and said the price in a monotone voice. He would not answer our questions, looked very bothered that we were in the store, and was very pushy trying to get us to buy items. We did see a few things that we would have loved to buy, but the environment pushed us out empty handed within ten minutes.
Before going to Squiggy's, Mark at Aw Yeah Comics in Harrison made a sale with us with us buying about 10 items. He was the complete opposite of Squiggy's; kind, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, and friendly. Give him your time and money instead. My friend and I are already planning our next trip there; Squiggy's, on the other hand, will never see us step foot in their...
Read moreIn my opinion, this place is that of a hidden gem. I remember hearing so much about it as a teenager, but didn’t take the time to really check it out.
When I went earlier, I was looking for a particular issue that I wasn’t aware hadn’t been released yet, so I took my time to browse. The owner Squiggy didn’t mind and gave me the time and space to look around.
When asked if I was looking for something in particular, I told him and when I found out it wasn’t available yet, he pulled out a sheet of new releases the following week and told me “if you see something you like circle it or write down what you’re interested in and I’ll try to get it in stock”. That’s the right way to do business, form your store around the customer.
He strikes me as a very down to earth man, and I see that some people had different experiences in the reviews, but I believe honestly he simply has an old fashioned character to him and if you’re from New York especially, you know that those can sometimes be the best interactions and most interesting people. Will...
Read moreI was ready and willing to give this place 5 stars. The place is small but organized. I only discovered it because of the free Comic day site which listed them as a participant. I was excited to see they still had a large selection of the free comics available. Everything was great Until the owner a very older gentleman hunted me down in Carvel 2 stores over to snatch the stack of comics I picked up from free Comic book day. He didn't explain himself. Only left me embarrassed infront of all the Carvel patrons as he said if I wanted the comics I could come back and pay for them. One of his employees eventually returned the comics to me and apologized. Even offered to pay my tab at Carvel, which I refused. The owner should have apologized. I wasn't looking for compensation. So over all the employees are courteous and kind. The owner is...
