The train station for Niagara Falls New York makes a great example of creating the future while protecting the past. The station shares a wall, a beautiful limestone wall, with the old customs house. I was so gratified to see that wall when I arrived in Niagara Falls on Friday night, albeit an hour and a half late. I felt comforted by the guard who awaited our arrival and kept the lights on in the station. Although it stands a short drive north of downtown Niagara Falls, the station is but a short distance from the downtown. It's a minimum fare Uber ride to hotels by the Rainbow Bridge. The facility has a newness about it and a cleanliness that comes from newness. A ticket counter handles business during business hours. Sadly, if one were waiting for a while, I saw nothing like a bar or restaurant across the street where one could buy a snack or sip a beer. The space calls for a concession, at least a coffee shop. Unusually, we were not allowed out onto the platform until the my moment before we boarded. I like to sit and wait on the platform. No stools or stairs were required to board the train. We stepped right from the yellow line into the open door. What a great advantage for people who have difficulty going up stairs. This station shows how far we've come in rebuilding our transportation infrastructure. I hope this progress isn't lost. I would hate to see this station idled by the lack of trains.
As a plus, I had time to read the interpretive exhibit on Niagara Falls as a final stop on the...
Read moreI visited the Niagara Falls NY Amtrak Station in late August/Early September 2022. This is the first or last stop in the US/NY before crossing over into Niagara Falls Canada. If you’re coming into the US/NY be sure to fill out your customs form. Coming from Canada once you arrive at this station, everyone has to get off the train with all your belongings including luggage to go through customs. Once we were cleared through customs we went upstairs to the station where we waited to board the train to continue our journey. The station was very clean and spacious with plenty of seating. There are vending machines to purchase snacks and beverage which accepts cash or card. There is an information desk as well with Amtrak employees to assist and answer any questions you may have. The information desk also has a map of the Niagara Falls area. There is a ladies and men’s room. The ladies room gets really crowded as there is only 2 stalls inside. Surprised to have a limited number...
Read moreWorst day ever , we left New York at 7:15am and it is 8:01pm and we are sitting literally outside of Niagara Falls without any explanation of any kind. This is the 3rd time today that we have been on the tracks waiting for something with no communication of any kind. The first stope was for over 2 1/2 hour , the second stop was almost 2 hours and now again. We have traveled on trains in Peru , China, Spain and Europe and NEVER encounter such disregard for paying customers ! And Amtrak wonders why people don’t want to use them. The staff on the train was absolutely rude! We could have flown but we thought it would be a great experience to see the...
