I come here to bowl every Wednesday with my staff, and my staff that took me here on Wednesday no longer works for Schenectady ARC. Starting with the 2017-18 Special Olympics bowling season beginning September 16, 2017, I will also be bowling here every Saturday for practice of the Special Olympics bowling league. I usually come here for the Special Olympics tournament every March back when I was still bowling at Rolling Greens in Scotia. Sportsman's Bowl is alot better then the Rolling Greens in Scotia because it is well maintained, and the lanes don't break down as much, and lights here don't burn out like they do at Rolling Greens in Scotia. This Bowling Alley, Sportsmans Bowl is about the size of the old Rolling Greens back when it was on Hamburg Street, which had 32 lanes, when I bowled there for Special Olympics back in 1986 until back in 1999, when the weight of the snow caused its roof to collapse that completely destroyed it, except Sportsmans Bowl is a little bit bigger then the old Rolling greens on Hamburg Street, which has 40 lanes. Sometimes after bowling on a Saturday, if I have money, and if I want to get lunch (or something to eat), they have a lunch counter (or snack bar-see photo of it taken by Walter Clark), I can go there. Their food selection is alot better then at Rolling Greens in Scotia because they have everything you see on their menu board behind the lunch counter (or snack bar) at Sportsman's Bowl that you want to get to eat there. The Maps app includes the 360° photo of the entire lanes (all 40 lanes) at the Sportsmans Bowl as seen from a balcony with tables (located just behind the stadium-style seating where the spectators would set when they watch people bowl) that I (Walter Clark) took on my phone from an app called: Panorama 360° pano camera, so I can show my friends to see what the alleys look like. The owners here at Sportsman's bowl are very nice and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI would not recommend going and spending your money. The workers here are hostile and extremely unprofessional. I called when they first opened and asked about the times for opening bowling. The gentleman told me the times and I said thank you. We show up to bowl and the guys working at the deck asked if we had a reservation. I stated no, and they told me well you really should be making a reservation. I explained that I called that morning and asked about opening bowling. And that nobody on the phone said I should make a reservation. If they did state that, I would have made one. The guys just shrugged it off and said in the future make a reservation. Okay no problem. The next experience we had with one of the workers was my husband was walking inside and one of the workers literally hunted my husband down and told him to be off his lanes by 4PM. Granted it was only 3:15PM. This gentleman didn't go to any other families and tell them this. It was really just bizarre and ruined the remainder of our bowling. We clearly knew what time we needed to be done because they told us when we arrived. On top of that when we were leaving it was 4PM and there was still people bowling. Did anybody go over to them and tell them to get off the lanes, NO. My husband is a veteran and treats everyone with respect, so I have no clue why they singled us out and thought it was okay to treat...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was the best bowling alley in the area FOREVER!!Some of you won't remember when Joe and Nick ran things. I bowled there from the time I was 9 until 1990 - When the game changed in that era, I gave it up. After watching guys bowl like Harry Polomaine, Rit Carney, Frank DePalma, Joe Donato and a host of others...it just was never the same. It got way to easy and became unchallenging. BUT it was as much fun as I ever had when it was a game back in my day. Sad to see what has happened to bowling in the area. So many lanes closing, shifts that have no bowlers...I used to go to The Bowlers club on Friday night at 10 PM and the whole house was going until after midnight. You could never find open bowling on ANY night. I'll guarantee it ain't like that now..Just sad for the game. Even the pro tour sucks. When I see a guy on TV throwing a ball without putting his fingers in the ball......well that's just stupid. Glad I never bowled again after 1990. BUT the days at Donato's Sportsmans bowl will always be with me - Great times with Joe and all the Donatos. Look at all the area lanes that are GONE - Scotia - Mt. Pleasant - ABC - Action - Bowlers Club -...
