I read several of the reviews here and I see everyone has there own opinion on this place so here is mine. As a side note I have never written a review about a resturant good or bad but this wasnt too pleasant. To begin, I was greated at the door when I walked not a biggy still an issue with customer service. So i order my food which was Catfish and Shrimp dinner. It came with hushpuppies and two sides i had the red beans and rice and bake mac n cheese. So my mac n cheese was texture was a little runny almost like under cooked eggs. My red beans and rice had gritty piece of rice in it. My catfish was fried so hard til even the meaty portion of the fish wasnt edible. So i informed the waitress of my issue with the fish her was response was "ok..would you like some more drink?" I said no thank you. Im thinking she was going to come back and offer some type of promo or replacement of the fish, deduction of the overall bill. But i got nothing but a "ok...would you like more drink?" Lastly, as im leaving no one said have a nice day, come back again nothing...so i would not recommend anyone go here base of my experience....and maybe that was a off day for them i dont know but worst experience ive ever had at a restaurant...in my opinion if you looking for good southern food and by good southern food I mean good southern food for Colorado..go check out Mayo's soulfood...nothing ive order from there has been unpleasant and the atmosphere is great and the owner you can tell cares about his customers coming...
Read moreRun! Don't walk! Get ya some of that home cooking!!! o.m.g...this place is THE BEST southern food in the Springs! Actually...best home cooked food period! I'm from the south and am a good cook myself. I'm usually disappointed when I try out restaurants like this here. Just restaurants in general lately are having a tough time keeping the quality of their food. I had the fried catfish, red beans and rice, Mac n cheese, and banana pudding. It was all to die for. The outside of the catfish was crispy and the inside was flaky perfection. Some of the best catfish I've had.... anywhere.. not just Colorado. The hush puppies were on point and so we're the sides. I asked for hot sauce, but I didn't need it.. everything was seasoned perfectly. Not spicy, but with a good amount of savory spice. The nana pudding was so damn good too! I tried to save some for my husband...but it didn't happen! 🤣 I will definitely be back. Bringing my...
Read moreDefinitely try this place. It is by far some of the best non-chain food we have tried since relocating to the Springs. We will be back. My family and I relocated from Baltimore, MD. My roots are north Florida. We tried the catfish, tilapia, collard greens, yams, Mac and cheese, and okra. It was delicious. The fish is cooked hard seasoned in a cornmeal batter, so it was crisp on the outside flaky on the inside. I come from the school of you can't eat everyone's greens. Theirs are delicious and tender. Chopped finely well cleaned, large stems removed with a touch of vinegar to remove the bitterness of the green. Yams were well spiced and candied but not overly sweet. Okra tasted hand battered and freshly chopped. Definitely used condensed milk in the Mac and cheese. Like dumplings, hush puppies are an art and they have mastered the medium. Crisp outside moist inside savory with a...
