Absolutely the Worst Storage Experience I’ve Ever Had – AVOID SMARTSTOP AT ALL COSTS!
Dealing with SmartStop since they took over from US Storage has been an absolute nightmare. If you’re considering renting from this company. DON’T. They are completely disorganized, unprofessional, and refuse to take any accountability for their mistakes.
Where do I even begin? I was previously set up on autopay with US Storage before SmartStop purchased the property. I was never notified of the sale. No call, no email, nothing. I rarely visit my unit, so I had no idea my account was in “delinquent” status until I showed up one day and found my gate code no longer worked.
When I went into the office, I was told I was three months behind. How is that even possible? No attempt was made to contact me. Had they reached out when they took over, I would’ve gladly re-activated autopay. Instead, I was forced to pay nearly $1,000 just to stop my unit from being auctioned. All due to their lack of communication and poor transition process.
To make matters worse, the staff in the office felt comfortable enough to make vulgar jokes about Jesus Christ during my visit. Completely inappropriate and beyond offensive.
Fast forward to now, and the same thing is happening again. Despite being enrolled in autopay (again), they failed to draft my payment, and then tried to hit me with late fees. I spoke with a same staff member last week and she promised to speak to management about removing the fees and said she'd follow up with me that day by phone or email. I never heard a word.
Now it’s been several days and surprise they’ve added over $200 in late charges, even though the issue is 100% on their end. No communication. No responsibility. It's honestly starting to feel intentional.
This company is a complete joke and an utter disgrace in terms of customer service and basic business operations. If you're thinking about using SmartStop for your storage needs, RUN in the other direction. I wish I could give negative stars. I would give them a negative 5...
Read moreBe careful with this location. I have had nothing but issues on funds and deception with them.
Filled out a reservation online and was asked for a move in date. I was called daily while still 6 days out from the move in date. So I took a call. They went ahead and got me set up by taking my payment information. Well they charged me then and started my lease date after that call.
When they took the funds, they took a full month amount of $120, plus $30 for activation of the account then another $20 for insurance from them for $171 total. There was a first months free promotion when signing up. Went into the office and the gentleman ended up fixing things and rolled over the excess charges to a credit for the account and gave me the next month free.
Then at the point of talking with the gentlemen in the office and getting things worked out, I was set up for auto draft. This was not set up and on one of my visits I was locked out and asked to visit the office. Went to the office and autodraft was not set up. So I was charged a activation fee to get me back in the gate.
Then after 4 months I was charge $230 out of the clear blue. Went into the office to talk with them and was told I was mailed a letter for the rate changes. Nothing I could dispute according to the office manager.
Things to note about this company before choosing: They do not Email or SMS message you anything. They only rely on Snail Mail. Out of date with times. You can not set up auto draft online so you will have to rely on them to do this. If you move addresses, make sure they know at all times where you are if you want any communication They recently put make up on a pig and repainted the place. They will call you like crazy to get you in the door, just to take your money as they please to rack up more charges. -Hands down worst experience I have ever had with a storage unit rental.
**If it were for that the place is clean I would...
Read moreEdit: after several weeks the problem was resolved and we were able to move our furniture out of the unit. Grateful this be taken care of before we needed to move out.
The people behind the desk were very friendly, and for the most part I thought that the prices were very fair. That being said, we used this location for storage of our belongings after we had sold our house and while we were waiting to move into our next one. The day that we finished moving the unit the door broke. It was able to open and shut but only with a lot of difficulty (I threw out my back after opening it twice) and it hung down several feet below the top of the door so that it was very difficult to get in and out of, especially with furniture etc. We called the office multiple times, and we were always told that the district manager was going to come and check it out. After over a month of waiting, and calling multiple times a week for so many weeks we were told the same thing. The district manager somehow had not made time for us yet. The time has come to move out of the unit and the door has still not been fixed. We have several people showing up to help and I'm not even sure if they're going to be able to get our furniture out. We're very frustrated. We've not been offered a refund or any information as to when the problem will be resolved. Again, the individuals who worked at the front desk were super helpful, they repeatedly apologize for the trouble but said their hands were tied until the district manager was able to come and look at it. Still, we feel very frustrated and ripped off that we have paid for an entire month where we cannot access our own belongings, nor am I convinced we will be able to...
