I had a few negative experiences selling here, where they initially said "oh, we aren't taking mens pants 38 inch waist and above right now..."
...which was exceptionally like a slap in the face when I've been shopping here for over 10 years and my waist has always been that size, I'm 6 feet tall!!! Note I am kidding about being offended, but really it is pretty silly if you think about it. That statement essentially excluded over half of men over 20. I get the impression they increasingly cater to a younger crowd, and the hiring pool is definitely probably under 20 on average so it is what it is. I suppose it's their way of trying to stay 'hip', but I honestly miss when I could find better vintage fits at Plato's. I digress!
After a few attempts, I finally was able to get a couple offers over 10 dollars, but I admit the buyers here are totally hit or miss. I don't want to be mean, so I will say that I've noticed a few workers who are really awesome, like very preffesional, helpful and friendly every time I go in, whether I'm buying or selling.
It's noteworthy that the owner/manager is a guy, which I appreciate, as I've only ever seen maybe 5 men or less other than him working at this chain throughout the years, in like 10 of their stores. It's quite rare to see a guy working at Plato's closet, based on experience. I think he genuinely puts a lot of effort into it, but the buyers like I said are either really good when you bring things that are in good condition, or really sometimes selective to the point where you might not sell anything unless it us super mainstream namebrand and even then its not always consistent with the pricing system now. I would say this company overall has gone in the wrong direction from what I used to see, but that's fashion... it changes with the seasons.
Selling fashion in general though is not for the faint of heart, so be prepared to be lowballed. That really isn't the point though, I really only trade rarely, and more often than not I spend as much as I make selling so it's usually a win win when they treat their customers with respect and throw you a 20 or 30 dollar offer versus a 2 or 3 dollar offer. I've literally seen different buyers price the same item twice as high on different days, so if you aren't getting enough I'd also recommend holding onto your stuff before just throwing it away so Plato's can make quadruple what they bought it off you for.
My best advice would be to go when there isn't a long wait, because I think the offers tend to be lower when they are super duper busy, like on weekends after noon and in the...
Read moreAs someone who worked at Plato’s many years ago, I was disappointed by the service I received while I was there. I found the selection of clothes okay and the prices were alright (for the condition some of the Vans shoes were in, def overpriced. You can buy a brand new pair for $10 more). However, for the service I was given by the employees, I wouldn’t recommend shopping here, unless you are just looking for a deal and don’t care about being treated friendly. There was one employee working the fitting room that basically just said whenever one is open to grab it. Didn’t count my items or anything (even though I know there was a limit). But what was truly disheartening was those working the register. While waiting to checkout I heard those at the buy counter very loudly talking about how awful the condition of some of the clothes were that some people brought in to sell and while one person came back from their break that it’s “much worse then you could imagine.” The employee that checked me did not ask me if I found everything okay and while they rang up, my clothes just balled them up and threw them in the bag. After I paid I received no “thanks for shopping” or “hope you have a good day.” She just threw my receipt in the bag and sent me on my way. I felt like I was a bother rather then a customer. I really don’t expect high level of service but from my experience today, there was barely any service at all. All I experienced was employees complaining about customers and a step slightly above self check out. Again, if you are just looking for a deal and don’t care how you are treated, then this place will meet your...
Read moreI’ve sold my clothing to this specific store a few times before. I don’t typically do this but I had a terrible experience here when trying to sell my clothing at this Plato’s Closet. I wasn’t given a time frame, so I walked around in the plaza. Once it hit 2.5 hours I came back to look around. When in the store, I over heard the workers talking about how they were going to skip the bigger containers(mine) for the smaller ones. This frustrated me because they weren’t going in order of how they came in. I’m not from the area so i couldn’t just go home and wait. I was trying to kill time, but once I heard this conversation I kindly went up and asked when they were going to get to my stuff. I’ve worked in customer service, and I understand a lot of places are short staffed. I couldn’t get over how they didn’t go in order of when things were brought to the store. They told me they had one container in front of me, so I went to my car and waited. Not even 10 minutes go by and they’re already done looking through all my bins to only buy 6 things. That was such a waste of time and once I got home I could tell they didn’t even go through all the stuff. It was a really bad experience and will never go...
