Rachael at Mariloff saved the day for my engagement! They now have a customer for life. When originally shopping for my Engagement Ring, I did not go to Mariloff because they aren't open on weekends and didn't want to try to drive across town after work on a weekday. I should have just braved the traffic and gone in the first place - it is worth it!
I ended up starting the process of designing a custom ring with a different Jeweler. I specify custom, because I specifically wanted to incorporate a pair of diamonds from earrings that had been passed down as family heirlooms into the design, and some jewelers shy away from that type of work.
The other Jeweler talked me into purchasing another diamond from them and gave me a separate ballpark quote for how much the setting would cost. Long story short, they lied to make the Diamond sale and afterwards quoted me 2x what they had initially estimated for the setting. After multiple other issues including not listening to my design preferences and ignoring correspondence for 6 weeks, I decided to take my diamonds and re-start my search for a jeweler that would provide me both good customer service and a good price! That's where Mariloff came in.
I was familiar with Mariloff as the shop that had provided a college friend of mine's wedding rings. After seeing pictures of their wedding, I decided they would be my next stop. I called and explained my {very stressful} situation to Rachael and how I now had 3 diamonds but no setting to mount them in. She explained that normally, Mariloff has no issues working with family heirloom type stones in their designs, but generally does not do work with diamonds that are sourced by other stores (which I completely understand!) She was sympathetic to my plight and said she would have to ask the owner's permission. A few hours later, she called me back and said they would be happy to help me design the perfect ring! She was clear up front that the original estimate that I had been told by the other jeweler would be hard to meet, but that they would certainly try and they would definitely keep it under the 2x quote the others had eventually given me.
From then on, the customer service was impeccable. It took about 3 weeks after I dropped the diamonds off for them to send me CAD of the ring design (and they actually listened to my input for what I wanted!) Then, 3 weeks later, the ring was ready to pick up! (For those of you counting, the whole process from first call to delivery with Mariloff was shorter than the time it took for the other store to get me the [wrong] renderings for my design!)
The cherry on top was how thoughtful Rachael was with my family heirloom earrings; I had briefly mentioned that they were given to me by my mom for use in the engagement ring, and how I hoped to mount some new stones in the earring settings as a thank-you gift back to my mom. When I went to pick the ring up, I was expecting to discuss this idea with her further. Instead, Rachael had gone out of her way and already taken care of finding the perfect pair of Opals and having them set into the earrings, gratis! (I had mentioned how Opals were my mom's favorite - I never had imagined that Rachael would take it upon herself to do this!)
Overall, I paid a little more than I had originally planned for, but they were able to get the cost down to much less than what my first jeweler tried to surprise me with - only about 10% over my original estimate! For the quality of customer service and product, I consider it money well spent. I couldn't wait to bring my new fiancé back to look for the perfect...

When I was in the market for a semi/custom engagement and wedding band, I started by reviewing online reviews from Google, Yelp, and other online sources. I was looking for a Tanzanite center stone which is a more delicate stone (it's not fragile, but it won't take the beating a diamond will). I down-selected to three options based on my online research. In order to see how the personnel at the three selected sites would respond, I visited all three sites on the same day, wearing an old faded, holey T-shirt, worn jeans, and worn out hiking boots. I visited Mariloff first, and was immediately greeted warmly and enthusiastically by Rachael. One would have thought I rolled up in a stretch, sporting a full suit with entourage in tow by the way she engaged and listened. She listened to what I was looking for, discussed the options, answered all my questions, scheduled follow up contact, and said pleasant farewell when I left. For reference, the second site's personnel greeted me at the entrance, assigned a salesperson who listened briefly before trying to sell me a pre-existing ring in stock, and then explained how they wouldn't warranty the center stone (Tanzanite) of the semi custom mount I wanted. No follow up was scheduled, my choices were to buy what they wanted to sell me or buy a semi/custom ring with limited warranty. The third site's personnel showed me some high dollar rings that didn't even come close to what I was describing, cut me off about halfway through describing what I wanted, explaining that they knew what I was looking for and would send info and pricing later (what they sent decidedly missed the mark in design and price). I took the information from business 2 and 3 and kept the follow-up appt with Rachael at Mariloff to see what they could do. Based on the service and care I had experienced so far, I was expecting the price to reflect the service quality. Rachel sourced three different Tanzanite stones and scheduled an appointment for me and my lady to come by and review. We selected a setting, and a stone, and then it was time to talk price. I was astounded...the price Mariloff was asking for this semi-custom ring, after this level of service, was significantly lower than the lowest of the other's offerings. Furthermore, Mariloff is partnered with a specialty jewelry insurance company that more than adequately covers the ring for any unfortunate circumstances for a very reasonable rates (it would take nearly the rest of my life for the premiums to come close to the value of the ring, and they cover everything). After deposit was made, Rachael kept me informed of progress on the ring as it was being assembled. During this process, it came to light that the accent stones were cut in a different format than the setting. Rachael communicated this to me immediately, and described the options and costs plainly. Once this minor issue was addressed, the stone we had selected was damaged on setting. Mariloff replaced the stone with a near exact replacement (it was actually a tad bigger) at no cost.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with the service, quality, support, and price provided by Mariloff, and any normal, custom, high end, or specialty jewelry purchases I make will be made...

I was reluctant to go in initially in fear Mariloff would be like big box jewelers and be pushy and elitist, they were not. I am sure any of the associates would treat customers amazingly, but I worked with Jim and Mark and they both deserve a shoutout for fantastic customer service and patience. I was able to take my time and never feel pressured to make a decision, be rushed, or spend more than I was comfortable with. Never once did they try to steer me or my fiancé into a more expensive option. I told them only one time the amount I was wanting to spend and they went above and beyond to make sure that the target was met.
I called them up to see about making an appointment to come in and take a look around, it was a last minute decision on my way home from work. The store was clean, felt high end, and overall like a reputable business that knew how to do things the right way. I am typically very critical of businesses and where I am going to spend my money, especially when it is a lot of money.
When it came to price, I was worried a private custom jeweler would be hard nosed on the price and my visit was going to just be a price fact finding mission. I initially kept my true budget amount private so I could find out their true mentality with pricing and also prevent any shady business from taking place. Much to my surprise, they were a fantastic value. I was on a very tight timeline to get the ring done before a trip I was going to propose on. I had my fiancĂ© come in with me the day after Iâd already visited to confirm what she really wanted. I told Mark and Jim to act as if theyâd never seen me and it was our first time discussing anything and they played the roles perfectly.
Initially the ring setting and diamond were not going to fit each other and be ready in time for our trip. I was disappointed but thought I would rather have the right ring sheâd love rather than trade quality from Mariloff for speed.
A few days later, Mark called me and said they had a shipment of diamonds come in that would not only fit the ring setting but also be a larger carat with the same impeccable cut, color, and clarity I had already chosen from another diamond and for the same price we already agreed on! Mark worked with the owner on my behalf and was not only able to meet my timeline for our trip but get me a bigger ring all for the same price I initially wanted! Truly an amazing business that isnât in the trade to make a buck at the expense of long term customer satisfaction. I felt I could trust them in their honesty and integrity.
If you want to be treated with dignity, respect, and enjoy a family business you can trust, go to Mariloff. I have never written a review for any company or person before but they are worth it. This was not a sleezy used car deal you felt took advantage of you but instead a welcome change to business in todays world.
