The manager and employees are racially profiling individuals and harassing them while they shop. I would stay far away from this brand and location.
Please read below. This incident happened yesterday.
the store manager of the L.L Bean in Danbury. Tonight my two friends and I were minding our own business, shopping and chatting with each other. While in the store I noticed multiple employees were following us, coming too close to comfort as if to “confront” us. My friend being of color, felt very offended and violated as she seemed to be the target. When this woman approached us AGAIN after we stared back at her, she proceeded to come over with an absolutely DISGUSTING attitude. She informed us “security cameras are watching you guys” all while smirking and demeaning my concerns. When I went to the counter to purchase a pair of moccasins, I asked to speak to a manager. The employee called up the manager, just for it to be the employee who verbally berated us. I voiced my concerns as an adult and in a professional manner and was met with the same hostility. She smiled and advised us “it’s all good, security is outside waiting for you.” When I inquired what the issue was that lead to this treatment, she stated “our employees overheard statements, it’s our job to watch you guys.”
This manager clearly is on a power trip, and deeply offended myself and my friends. My friend was brought to tears in the parking lot. I cannot express into words how offended and upset I am. I have zero tolerance for hate or discrimination of ANY kind and this needs to be addressed. I purchased my merchandise as there was nothing to hide and nothing to prove. Still was belittled by this manager as she snarled while I exited the store.
I strongly encourage this post be shared, it’s not right for situations like this to occur. After calling the store number, once again the concerns were minimized. There is and was absolutely no reason for this treatment, and while assumptions are not facts, this event when looked at in context would offend many people. No one is looking for any reparations other than a formal apology. Disgusted in L.L Bean and this...
Read moreI was doing a favor for my elderly parents and brought in a pair of shoes, one of which, had a broken sole. I’ve been an LLBean customer for 40+ years, my parents have been loyal customers for even longer. The employee at the check-out desk, wearing no name tag, was brusk, rude, dismissive, and disdainful. When I got my 90 year old mother on the phone to clarify the problem, she was even more disrespectful and rude. The same employee brought over the manager, whose name tag said Lauren (no last name or initial), who was slightly less disrespectful, but equally dismissive, lecturing me about excessive wear without even having looked at the problem. The attitude of these employees was unprofessional, uncalled for, and very unpleasant. I’d advice not shopping at this store. I’m still a fan of LLBean, but not the one in Danbury, CT.
In response to the store’s response-I didn’t mention if the return was accepted or refused, I only spoke about the way the staff treated me and my 90 year old mother. I’ve already shared my review with LLBean headquarters. The outcome of the broken shoe will be decided in Maine, my complaint has to do with the staff, not the product. How you treat people is important, how you treat people who have a problem with a product...
Read moreDon't bother returning defective purchases here you won't be helped. I bought a relatively expensive winter sports jacket here last year and had to exchange it within 2 months for a broken zipper, I was not upset and moved on. Come this winter the new jacket broke in exactly the same manner, again after about 2 months of use. At the danbury llbean store i was flatly told (by the manager) that they would not exchange or refund the item, and that they only could look into how much repairs would cost me. Its about 2 months outside the original one year return window, however it was exchanged less than a year ago due to a defect. This couldn't be a more crystal clear design/manufacturing defect (has to be one or the other), and this jacket isn't some cheap $80 pullover that i could just toss aside as used up.
Llbean customer service wasnt much better, although a bit more polite. Now I have to pay to mail it in and just hope they refund or credit it, with no assurance either way. They seemed basically helpless to affect customer service, repeatedly telling me that the stores were now their entire return dept!!! This has been a massive...
