My car rental experience was terrible. When I was reading the reviews I thought that this place can't be that bad. It's probably like just another car rental place... but I was wrong.
Expect long lines and be prepare to spend about an hour or so just to rent a vehicle. The service is SLOW. Donna helped me at the counter the first day. She gave me quite a bit of false information to make me purchase additional services. First of all, she told me to buy daily toll through them because there would be "several tolls on I-95 on the way to West Palm" from their location via I-95. I looked up on google maps and there weren't any so I declined that offer. She still cautioned me about the "tolls on i-95". And Google was right, there weren't any tolls. She also told me to get a car insurance through them. I declined that as well and she said insisted because my personal car insurance "wouldn't be valid in the state of Florida". I declined this again and she told me "you'd be fully responsible for anything that goes wrong." This wasn't my first time renting a car and I told her I will take full responsibility. Usually, the additional insurance saves you from going through your personal car insurance company and paying any deductibles. Then she asked me if I would like to purchase a full tank of gas. Also, I would get reimbursed for the unused gas. I thought it didn't sound right and it's not a common practice by other car rental services but in that moment I said yes. I figured it would save me a hassle of filling up gas the tank on my way back. Then I was instructed by Donna to go and pick any car from section 2. I was suppose to be getting a Ford fusion hybrid sedan or similar. And the only options I had in section 2 were Kia Sportage (two of them) and Mitsubishi Outlander. Now these vehicles are no way close to a hybrid sedan. I didn't argue much because my wife and I were with out 9-wk old and didn't want to spend too much time sitting at the rental store. On the day of return, I brought the car back with more than half a tank back. The employee who was doing the returns told me that they don't have any such policy where they reimburse for the unused gas. He instructed me to go inside and speak with one of the employees at the desk. I stood in the line and finally spoke with Sterling. This guy was just straight up rude. He asked me "how can I believe you that the other employee told you that" unused gas gets reimbursed "she is not here at the moment". He opened up to contract and highlighted the section where it said that they don't reimburse. I mentioned that Donna shouldn't be giving out false information to people because in a rush I took her word for it. He became loud and disrespectful. At that point I decided to leave. Lastly, while all of this was happening inside the store I missed my bus to the car rental at the airport (This site is off the airport). The next bus arrived and I walked over to the bus. This service is also run through Fox. The guy was also rude, not a surprise. He told me to go sit on the bench until he is ready because I missed the bus earlier, and he closed his bus's doors. Bear in mind, this is in the middle of summer with a 9 wk old baby. During this time he sat in the bus and played loud music while we sat outside. Not sure what the point was in making us sit on the bench outside while he just sat there.
When it comes to customer service etiquette, they don't have any. My intent here is to make people aware of this business's dirty practices and prevent them from getting ripped-off...
Read moreDO NOT RENT WITH FOX!!
I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of the high star ratings are fake. We flew into FLL last week and decided we would book a car with Fox. BIG MISTAKE!
When arriving at the rental car terminal, Fox was the only counter with more than 1 person in line. We times that every customer would take approximately 25-30 minutes to serve.
At first we wondered if it was a human error issue as clients seemed to be struggling with the payment terminals. When it was our turn to be servers, we understood it was not that there was any issues with the people or terminals but rather the upselling and hidden fees.
After waiting 2 hours, it was our turn to be served.
First, our customer service agent tried to upsell us on a more expensive car ranging from $25-$40 USD per day. When we decline he told us to take a second and really reflect as well as dropped the price to $15-25 a day. We told him we didnt need time and that we were more than happy with the compact SUV we had selected online.
He then tried to upsell us on insurance planes ranging from $25-$45 a day extra. The gentleman man made it seem like these were the only options and that we had no choice but to take insurance. So we decided to go for the basic plan.
We were then push for unlimited tolls package for $14 a day which is COMPLETE SCAM. Tolls are approximately $0.50-$2.00 and are completely optional when driving. They claimed that if we didnt take the toll package we would be charged the price of the toll and an additional $15 per toll. During out whole trip, we never had a reason to take a toll and never wanted to because of how high the price us for virtually nothings. All locals laughed when we explained that an “unlimited tolls package” was an option.
Finally , without tellings us the price the gentleman asked us to insert our credit card. Luckily we were canadian and the credit card machine asked us if we wanted to pay in USD or CDN. After all the upselling was done, we were on the hook for another $900, after already having to pay $250 for the rental in the first place.
I told the gentleman that i wanted to wave EVERYTHING as i already had personal insurance, didnt want to drive on tolls and would bring the car back full on gas. The man was visibly upset and spent 15 minutes trying to pressure us into sticking with our package. He failed.
After 35min of talking with the gentleman, his attitude became extremely rude and he still kept the $35 “bring it back empty “ fee which i told him to remove. He hid it in the fees and told me after i paid that it was already done and couldnt be reverted.
All that being said, FOX SUCKS. Never again will i step foot near their counter. Id rather pay a little bit more than to be bullied into paying 4 times as much for absolutely no gain. Rent with budget, avis, enterprise. Not these guys.
On top of that, they comment if good (seemly fake reviews) and do absolutely nothing to satisfy customers after leaving such a horrible taste in their mouths. They simply give you an email to complain to that does not reply to you. SCAM SCAM SCAM
Update: After sending a complaint to the email provided and waiting 50 hours. I have not received any response from Fox Rental a car support. As i said, im not sure, but im convinced that the replies are automated and non legitimate. Most bad reviews are removed per people on reddit. Beware...
Read moreBack to five stars all due to Aaron the supervisor at billing! Literally was about to confirm my earlier 1 star rating and even note that despite the feedback to my rebiews apologizing and saying let us make it up to you it was a lie. Spent two hours with Fox (ending with Mark at billing, on 6/25 at noon) but thank goodness demanded a suoervisor. When Aaron arrived he understood all (he will let management know at FLL that amends have been made) and we cancelled my old reservation and rebooked with counter bypass, my original goal. Even with the bypass fee it was over $150 less for the two weeks. Thank you Aaron. C Suite take note you have a real gem. Keep up the good work.
Well the jury has returned - if ratings could be negative this would set a record. Wife got to Fox in Ft Lauderdale in a wheelchair and was told to wait in an hour line (wheelchair person had to get back to terminal). Despite response to.yesterdays 1 star saga when she finally got to desk they coukd not find reservation (though Travelocity tells me they could not cancel - nobody answers). Like yesterday this occurred while on chat -but chat guy says sorry not in Florida. Wife walked over to ACE and got a rental (a bit more but Fox has lost a customer who has paid thousands over the last year).
Interesting - see review below. Wrote this because I know Fox pays attention so commendable that they responded within an hour. I actually wrote as they suggested and will report how they respond. Depending on response might even up my rating - mistakes happen, attention to rectifying much more rare. Let us see.
Must say I both love and hate Fox. I generally rent from them (they cover the beaches and slopes well) and am a long-term member. Had a quick trip and back trip to Fort Lauderdale for my wife and got a great Travelocity rental rate. However I often get priority so no lines and chatted with FOX (AI sucked but asked for human and got Ken(rick) S - told him he woukd be famous. Asked of there was a way if a regular could upgrade reservation and was told no, only if you book from us. Led to next question, whether booking online woukd be as good as any alternatives - have many regular services that tell me they will match any valid offer. After some hemming and hawing Mr S said no. Noting that premium service has a cost over rental that means you pay twice for the privelege. Suggested Ken (or firm) reply why this makes sense Otherwise would suggest price matching for at least your top tier 8customers. Happy to spend thousands annually at Fox but suggest they consider how to define loyalty. Good luck but think if waits get so bad to demand a double premium will just take my business elsewhere. Looking...
