I rented a vehicle in Lauderdale Airport. When I arrived I took a car that was in the emerald aisle and when I was leaving they told me the car needed service and need to switch vehicles. Ok no problem. Then after that the next day I realize the ac does not work well in the new vehicle I rented mind you its florida and is very hot. I called and was told I can get a vehicle brought to me in exchange the next day. For the next 3 days no reply finally called customer service. They had no luck reaching this branch also. I was told they left a message with branch manager which no one ever got back ahold of me. So 2 weeks I drove a vehicle with broken half working ac and no response from anyone at national. My overall rating is 1 I just can't understand how a business this big and no one can respond back. I hope next time I rent from them its a lot better experience.
Well this will be my 2nd terrible experience with using national at this location. I was even told it was a privilege for them to rent to me after renting from them for 3 years straight. Not at this location though I have only rented twice now from them and both times a bad experience. First off they called the cops on me for expressing how I felt which I guess in America is now a crime ? I was pretty embarrassed they had 3 cops and 5 or 6 employees surrounding me like I committed a crime. Finally when that situation was settled I asked if I can upgrade which I have never had an issue with in the past and even looking online it is there company policy I can upgrade with the emerald club membership and pay the difference. I was told because I have a florida liscense I could not upgrade. I have a florida liscense and a major credit card. To my knowledge and what is stated on there website is that I can go to the emerald aisle and upgrade to premier for the up charge. It should be as easy as getting off the plane picking any car you want even premier as a emerald card member and leaving. This has not been the case. On top im still waiting for them to resolve a rental that the ac was broken in florida in the middle of the hottest time of the year that they told me was not considered and emergency. I left a review and all they offered me was 100 bucks off 1000 dollar bill it was a slap in the face. I tried to contact them multiple times with no response back while I had the vehicle and after I returned the vehicle. It seems like it is not necessarily the company but the employees at this branch. The left shoe doesn't know what the right shoe is doing and the valued customers are the ones suffering. I know I'm a small fry on a big scale but I feel spending over 40k in 3 years in rentals should amount to something atleast better customer service. Also was told they were going to take care of the broken ac situation on the latest rental but they still charged me full price with no reimbursement for anything. I will probably pay more money next time to fly into another airport like sanford where they treat the customers alot better and with respect.

I am currently banned from renting with them due to me and this location not being able to come to an agreement. Corporate was very apologetic and understanding but the way they operate is each location is owned but independents and corporate can’t interfere. The managers and higher ups at this location have no interest in talking to anyone and or resolving customer concerns. Rent with anyone else especially when it comes to this location.
Worst Car rental experience
I’m currently a National Car rental Executive member which is the highest tier but is supposed to come with some perks like being able to go straight to your car classes row and being able to pick what you want.
Unfortunately this is where the problem starts this location had no cars for my tier on the lot. So me and my family had to wait 15mins for them to try to find a car.
We selected the Extended Luxury SUV class when renting so we expected something higher tier.
After waiting they finally brought out a White Jeep Grand Wagoneer L.
We noticed red permanent marker circle marks all over the car that pointed out damage to the vehicle. I let the lady at the desk know how much damage was to the car and we didn’t really feel comfortable driving it due to liability reasons. She said she would put a note on the agreement stating all the damage so we wouldn’t have to worry. After leaving when we got to our hotel we inspected the inside of the vehicle and discovered that it had barely been cleaned and there was food all over along with dirt and other foreign material.
I’ve rented a Wagoneer before from another national location and didn’t have any issues. When I went to fill up this specific model I realized that it took premium fuel Only! I called a dealership to confirm that these specific models require premium fuel otherwise it will mess up the engine. I did not want to be held liable for a car that was not mine and costed over $100,000 so I filled it with premium which ended up costing us more in fuel costs than the entire rental cost. We were never told that this vehicle required premium fuel when renting so we were shocked to learn it on our own. Upon returning the rental I let the man know who was checking us out and he stated that we didn’t have to put premium in it but again I wasn’t going to be held liable for something that isn’t mine. I also told him about the other inconveniences and he barely spoke any English but said he would take $60 off the rental which I told him wasn’t enough for all the hassle.
