La Familia Tacos & Tequila — Restaurant in Dania Beach

This place has good food but HORRIBLE service. Our server was rude and very unprofessional. We had a group of 4 people in our party. When we recieved our drinks we had asked for straws since we were drinking soda and the server Marie gave us the drinks by the rim (trying to avoid germs/sickness) she proceeded to say in a nasty way that you have to ask for them here since the straws are killing our sealife. This we all completely understand since we are all very aware of our planet and we understand, but the way she said it made us all feel bad for asking and she had said this rudely to us and acted like it was a huge inconvenince for her. The ordering process was okay, but it was just that. I really felt like I was just ordering food from an unhappy worker that didn't want to be there. We waited a good 20 minutes or so for our food and during that time our server never came back to refill our drinks. We had to flag down another server for a refill. During dinner our drinks went empty again and the server did not come back to refill our drinks till we were done with our food. At this point we didn't want another refill. My friend asked the server for our checks and she left and then brought one whole check with everyone's meals/drinks on it. My friend asked if she could please split the checks (she never asked us in the beginning and this is a standard process with multiple people in a group) but instead the server walked away and said "It's too late now." At this point we were all dumbfounded that she said that to us while walking away. We are very understanding people and myself and my friend had both been servers for quite some time and this was just unbelievable. We thought she was kidding until she came back and we asked again and she said can't do it right now and that her manager was busy in the kitchen. Again we were all frustrated at this point and we asked to speak with the manager and our server said she's too busy in the kitchen. At this point she started walking away and I got up to follow her to the kitchen and asked her to speak with her manager. She kept saying she was too busy. I know this wasn't acceptable restaurant etiquette since I've worked at a resturaunt before and when a guest is dissatisfied the manager does come out and speaks to the guests. I could hear my server complaining about us in the back about us and then saw the manager walking with her and rolling her eyes. I couldn't believe this restaurant was handling their guests like this. When she walked back out she said her manager will fix it but it will take a few minutes. Then she kept on saying that we are an airport restaurant and not a regular restaurant and that we don't serve chips/salsa and we don't ask you if you want your checks split in the beginning...I told her we weren't even expecting to have chips/salsa and that we weren't even complaining about that. The whole point was that this place had horrible service and no one cared for us. We spent a little over a $100 in this restaurant so we weren't planning on leaving until they corrected this for us since our service was so horrible. We got to the house stand, which was empty, to wait to be seated. Then made eye contact with 3 employees that walked right passed us until I walked in a little further and someone finally came to seat us, but never said anything to us. No greeting, no welcome, no how is your day, just very poor customer service from the start. Then while ordering they told us they were out of Coke, so I order a Sprite which was basically club soda and sent it back for a water instead. The waiter took out order and a few minutes later brought out silverware and then a few minutes later he brings out forf for a customer sitting at another table and instead of going to the back to get them a new set of silverware, takes my silverware to give to them. He eventually brings me more silverware but it was very unprofessional to take someone else's silverware and give them to another guest. Then our food comes out and they have now run out of time, mind you it's a Mexican restaurant that serves beans and rice as a platter. The food was unimpressive and way too over priced for what we got . Then it came time to pay and a family 2 tables down didn't get their order placed in time so they paid for what they ate and left but the check was wrong and they had to readjust everything because he had already charged their card. We decided to pay in cash and the total was $34.86 and we have him $40. The change would be $5.14, when he brings the change there is only $5 dollars on the table so I say, "excuse me, there was no change with the $5" and he said, "oh we don't deal with change", so I said, " that's called stealing if you don't give me the exact change back that is correct" and he was very quick to give us a quarter without causing a scene. If I could give this place a 0 star, I would. Please do yourself and your wallet a favor and do not go here. All I wanted was a margarita plus some chips and salsa at a what seemed like a Mexican restaurant. After 7:30pm, your only choice of food is wings and fries. Neither of which is Mexican so I ended up not getting food. Instead, I decided to order a margarita, which seemed safe. But, I should have seen the warning signs when they told me they can only do a lime margarita on the rocks, there was no Mexican food available and very few happy customers/reviews. Of course, I didn't see the signs so I ended up getting the lime margarita on the rocks. The drink came mostly full of ice and just average. Then when I looked around, they were cleaning up and putting chairs away which indicated that they were closing. So, I had my 1 margarita and asked for the bill. Well, the bill came and the 1 drink cost me $17.49 plus an automatic 18% gratuity! There was no service that warrants an 18% gratuity and $17.49 for an ice full of drink is a rip off even for the airport! When I complained to the server about the 18%, he left to talk to the manager and came back and said there was nothing he could do about it. However, after looking at the bill, it says this could be removed but it looks like the only way to remove it is to talk to the server/manager which I did!

The person who deserved my 18% gratuity was the lady at Auntie Anne who made me a fresh almond pretzel even though she was closing for the night! If you go to this airport, go to Auntie Anne for an almond pretzel ($5.25) and just order a drink...
