Beware of Dollar/Thrifty Rental: Terrible Customer Service and Potential Theft! Rental Information Date: 04/07/24 Time: 6:30 pm Vehicle: 01998 / 1733963 20 SIR ROGUE AWD S Car Color: Blue License Plate: FL BR66SU I am utterly disappointed with my experience at Thrifty Car Rental at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport. After accidentally leaving my valuable Nikon Z 5 camera with a 55mm lens in the rental car. The past two days have been a nightmare attempting to retrieve it. Despite multiple attempts to contact the agency, including fruitless calls to an automated system with no option to speak to a live person, I felt neglected and disrespected as a customer. It's outrageous that a company of this caliber lacks direct access to customer support. Even when my brother, who lives locally, tried to retrieve the camera during operating hours, he was given the runaround and ultimately told that nothing was found. This blatant lie only reinforces my suspicion that someone within the agency took advantage of the situation and stole my camera!!! The ordeal continued with a pending claim that remains unresolved, coupled with unanswered emails. The lack of urgency and communication from Dollar/Thrifty is appalling!!! Furthermore, despite my insistence, I have not received my camera, and I demand that the agency thoroughly investigate by checking their security cameras for any suspicious activity. As a customer, I demand accountability and immediate action to recover my stolen property. The agency's negligence and potential involvement in the theft have left me profoundly dissatisfied and betrayed. Avoid Dollar/Thrifty Car Rental at all costs if you value your belongings and expect decent customer service.

What a ridiculous experience! I stood in an extremely long line for 1 hour 40 minutes. Having to wait in line is not an issue, but it definitely turned into an issue when there were almost 100 people in line and one agent. There was only 1 agent working at the desk! I like thrifty, but this location is the worst! Management should be ashamed of themselves! Total inconvenience and lack of regards for customers, especially those traveling with infants.

Horrible experience renting here. I am Avis Preferred but booked this rental because it was the least expensive option paired with my flight BIG MISTAKE. My pick up and check out experience was fine. I was able to pick any car from the economy aisle. However where things went south is the day before my rental was to be returned I discovered my car was infested with roaches!!! DISGUSTING! Of course I didn’t realize this right away because when I entered the car they would disappear into the cup holder and the tiny crevices of the car. I purchased some bug spray and hosed it down so I could make it back to FLL the next day (I was staying in Delray) obviously packing my luggage in sealed garbage bags. Upon my return the representative at the desk said the most they could offer me was a $25 CREDIT for the next time I rent with them. As if I would ever want to do that again. I contacted their customer service via Facebook to give them an opportunity to further remedy the situation and they told me since I didn’t call their Emergency Roadside Assistance number and I accepted the $25 credit (the on-site rep told me this was all they could do) they couldn’t do anything more for me. Perhaps if they hadn’t been so busy trying to up sell me to a more expensive car and insurance I didn’t need they would have had time to mention the roadside assistance. Needless to say will never rent from them again and I PRAY I didn’t bring roaches back to my home. Use at your own risk! They are VERY lucky I can’t upload video here.

Dear Dollar Rent A Car Management,

I wanted to share my recent experience with Dollar Rent A Car at Fort Lauderdale International Airport. I had confirmed, booked, and paid for my rental car in full almost two weeks prior to my trip, and everything was going smoothly until I arrived at the counter. The agent requested to see my physical passport, which I did not have on me, but I provided a printout and a PDF copy of my passport page. Despite my efforts, I was informed that without a physical passport, I could not rent a car. This rule was disappointing and frustrating, especially since I had prepaid for the rental.

I understand the importance of verifying identification and following protocols, but I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility and understanding from the management. Despite the agent's efforts to assist me, the manager's refusal to accept my alternative forms of identification left me stranded at the airport with limited options. The suggestion to video call someone where I was staying to prove the validity of my passport was not feasible for me, and I felt unsupported in finding a solution.

I was faced with the dilemma of either spending $80 plus on Uber fees to retrieve my passport or canceling my rental altogether. After a long wait on hold with your customer service, I was informed that I had actually booked through a third party company, Miles Car Rental. This was news to me, as I had believed I booked directly through your website. The lack of clarity and transparency in the booking process added to my frustration and confusion. I was also informed that canceling my reservation (agent from Miles car rental) would result in a deductible being taken out and a delayed refund process, which further exacerbated the situation.

After returning with my passport (still regretting I paid so much for an uber) The agent who assisted me was amazing, very thoughtful and professional. Just want to make it clear that I displayed no annoyance or any sense of frustration at no time during the experience, I was just internally annoyed that a copy of my passport was not accepted.

Thinking everything was smooth now,

The lack of available SUVs in the class I had prepaid for added to the challenges I faced in finding a suitable vehicle for my needs. Despite settling for a less-than-desirable option, the vehicle I received was not properly cleaned and maintained, which was disappointing and unacceptable, I took it anyway because I really had important places to be present.

The overall experience with Dollar Rent A Car left me feeling disappointed and inconvenienced, especially as I had to miss an important event due to the delays and complications encountered. Which was the main reason for my trip to Florida.

Subject: Complaint Regarding Unauthorized $711 Charge and Unsatisfactory Service – Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport Location

Dear Dollar Rent A Car Customer Relations,

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding my rental experience at your Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport location.

While getting the vehicle on 22nd of Oct 2025, I was dismayed to discover an unauthorized additional charge of $711 applied to my credit card. This charge was made without prior notice, consent, or any clear explanation from your staff. At the time of rental, I was not informed of any potential fees beyond the agreed-upon total, and no one attempted to clarify the reason for this substantial additional amount.

When I sought assistance from the staff at the Fort Lauderdale Airport counter, I encountered discourteous and unhelpful behavior. Unfortunately, the representatives on duty were neither willing nor able to provide a satisfactory explanation for the charge, which has left me extremely dissatisfied with both the service quality and the lack of transparency demonstrated by your company. However, during online renting process, system showed that I covered all the costs including full insurance.

Given these circumstances, I respectfully request the following: A detailed written explanation of the $711 charge, including documentation and justification. A full refund of this amount should it be determined that the charge was applied in error or without proper disclosure and authorization.

I would appreciate acknowledgment of this complaint and a formal response within seven (7) business days. I trust Dollar Rent A Car will address this matter promptly and take appropriate steps to prevent similar issues in the future.

Worst service ever

Upon my arrival at the location the associate was very angry he was working late and that I would have to come back in the morning. I had no way of getting off the airport so he said he will do me the favor and rented me the car. He walked to the parking lot with his backpack on his back and left me in the lot and go. I was in the parking lot at that time of the night for about 35 minutes with no one to help me.

I started honking the horn and finally another person came and said you can take the car and I went on the ask what is the price he said the price you have $228 and was able to let me out of the lot.

The next day I saw the amount was different and called customer service was told I have to wait after I return the vehicle to adjust the price. I return the vehicle at 11:38 and the contract was never closed. I called customer service again who said they will send a request to have the contract close then call back and I did.

I waited 22 minutes in line to speak with the manager at the counter he never came, left him my number never called. Called again this morning and was told by Amber from billing who said that no supervisor to speak with and continue to say if I want he can try to refer me to a manager but their will be no adjustment to the bill and it stands

Is that how customers are treated? Is the customer centric service? I am awaiting a response because I did not ask for any upgrade and from the moment I rented the car, leaving me in a parking lot alone by your associate for over 30 minutes, unable to leave is that the service that Hertz have Dollar render to customer.

Now they added upgrade price and my $228 rental is now $292 and no one, absolutely no one care to hear me out. The supervisor said the amount stand and will not be adjusted. Please be careful renting at...
