So I just want to share one of the BEST customer service experiences I've EVER had. With trips to Switzerland and India coming up, I wanted to step-up my photography game. Having primarily used my iPad and iPhone for taking photos on the go, I really want to capture the best photos I can while seeing iconic places like the Taj Mahal and the Swiss alps.
I've done some research and found the exact camera that I want, as it is a bundle and is currently on sale for the holiday season. Both Costco and Mike's have this particular Nikon for the same price. I would typically shop at Costco for their easy return policy and warehouse pricing, but the individual service lacks, as well as the staff's knowledge of the products. I went in to Mike's this evening on Colorado Blvd/Exposition and was quickly greeted by Jonathan. I told him that I was new to photography and had a specific camera in mind, but would be open to learning about the features that other Nikon cameras have to offer, he was AWESOME! Jonathan brought out a couple of different models to compare side-by-side to help me choose the best option for me, a novice in photography, and answered every question I had (some of which were probably silly, but he never made me feel dumb) throughly and effectively.
What is even better, is that Mike's offers classes when you purchase a camera from them, so I will have been introduced to the features of my new Nikon before I set out on my around the world journey in February. Jonathan was very upbeat and friendly, which made me even more pleased to hear that he will be the one that gives the classes on the Nikon digital SLR cameras.
Tonight's experience was one that I didn't expect, in a time of year-end pushes for businesses to make as many sales as possible, the experience at Mike's was very relaxed. I never once felt pressured to buy, and the friendliness of Jonathan that clearly demonstrates that photography is not just a job, it's his passion. After just one experience, I am a customer for life. I very much look forward to the classes to teach me how to use my new camera, and am very grateful for the service I received. I'm posting this review to both yelp and google, because I think great service shouldn't go...

Not a whole lot of people can top Mani’s sheer enthusiasm and genuine interest for every customer who walks into Mike’s Camera. By chance she has been the one who has consistently helped me with various tasks and needs ( ie; getting 50 copies of 5 different CD’s of valuable video footage I didn’t want to lose, ordering more film or cameras to make in time for my event, taking passport photos for me, helping me create photo books for my family and more). However, it’s her vivacious energy and personable skills that makes me want to always come to this store versus the Best Buy’s/Targets etc... For that, I am forever grateful to feel at ease and at home when I come to Mike’s Camera in Glendale because I know I’m always in great hands!
Ryan at Mike’s Camera ( Glendale) — Wide Breadth of Knowledge, Patient, Kind
From buying my first camera to the one I have now, Ryan at the Glendale store has truly taught me everything I know; more than that, he’s instilled huge motivation to continue my breadth of knowledge and skills base with photography! He is wildly patient ( I.mean.patient.), knows all the ins-and-outs of lens and appropriate cameras for each type of person/level, and has always been a kind and warm face to say hello to when I pop in for various things. He’s not the kind of salesman who has those clear malicious intentions to get your hard-earned dollar— he’s the real deal connoisseur for cameras ( though I think he may be too humble to admit that!). As such, I highly recommend going to Mike’s Camera and paying a visit to him; Mike’s Camera does classes as well so there’s just plenty of helpful resources to get you...
Read moreI have attended two workshops sponsored by Mike's Camera. The content was good for both but the logistics need some work. The Brainard Lake workshop got off to a late start because the person bringing the coffee showed up 30 minutes late. The driver missed the turn to the lake. The store staff member on the bus wasn't sure where the turn was and didn't tell the driver where to turn. We arrived at the lake just after the peak light despite having driven from Fort Collins to get to Mike's in Boulder by 3:30am.
The Me Ra workshop was also wonderful in terms of content. However, I didn't get an email confirmation of my registration and called a couple times. A voice mail was left and I did get two emails from store managers. However, neither store manager could find my registration and one email said Mike's didn't have an email for me. The other said they didn't know what workshop I signed up for. Minutes after the last email from the store manager at 5:48 pm on October 5th, I got an email from Nicole Shanks confirming my registration. Obviously, someone had my email address and had information about my registration.
Waiting until the evening before a workshop to send a confirmation is a problem for me, especially when I have to drive from Fort Collins to attend the workshop in Denver.
I think it is wonderful that Mike's offers educational workshops. I hope the logistical issues can get resolved. It makes the whole process somewhat stressful when that part of the process isn't...
