DO NOT MOVE INTO THE LODGE. DIRTY & FILTHY BUILDING, WORST MANAGEMENT
Dear current residents, EACH TIME the maintenance team visits your unit or any damage issues occur at your unit, make sure to check for any new damages and scratches and report them with pictures to the office. Otherwise, it will be on you when you move out.
I am filing a complaint to BBB (Better Business Bureau) as well as I will be bringing this case to a small claims court soon as The Lodge charged me a damage fee for paint and patchwork of $225 as well as full cleaning fee of $125 in move-out statement. Its Greystar management took them 31 days just to start a dispute case and after a few emails going back and forth with The Lodge within several days, they said they are sending the bill to the COLLECTIONS if I don't agree to pay immediately. After their tenants lived in a unit for OVER FIVE YEARS, they still want to charge the paint fees on previous tenants before the next tenants move in. Landlords have a standard business practice of repainting and cleaning units between most tenancies. The damages made by the maintenance team on the high spots of wall & ceiling, as well as paint bubbled up should not be charged to the tenants.
They refused to do move-out walkthroughs even after several requests, because they wanted to charge extra fees weeks after you return keys and leave the town.
In case anyone wonders why I lived here for 5 years if I really didn't like it, I had a small local business which I worked so hard to make it survive through and after the pandemic. I was so exhausted to even think about moving despite so many issues in my unit, as I used to work 7 days a week. After I sold my business, I decided to move out.
This is what I experienced during my last year in The Lodge:
Safety: Cars get broken into in the parking lot. One time a guy with a gun was seen in a building and The Lodge only sent out an email to notify residents to be careful. Many big pot holes in the parking lot.
Maintenance, it's not their fault but they weren't able to fix some big issues and the office manager's excuse was 'the building is too old.' Even after the numerous visits by the maintenance staff and also by a third party vendor they sent, they weren't able to fix the bathtub water tap, in which the water was leaking continuously 24 hours which caused molds in the bathroom and bathtub to peel (which came back to me later as part of damage charge in the move-out statement)
Frequent emergency water shut off due to their old water pipe issues. If you wake up in the morning, try to take a shower before going to work, and find out about the emergency water shut off, you are screwed.
Water leaked from the ceiling in the bathroom, a large amount of water "fell" from the ceiling for 5 minuits to the gas stove in the kitchen at 1am.
The maintenance staff will come to repair the ceiling, bathtub taps, etc. they left some damages including scratches to the high spots of the wall and ceiling in the bathrooms. Those damages were part of the damage charge in the move-out statement. My family members (no kids) are not even able to reach the high spots of the wall or ceiling in the bathrooms to cause damage!
Marijuana & tobacco smells coming from two bathrooms almost everyday. The leasing office's answer is all they could do is post notices to surrounding neighbors, which didn't really help.
Roaches, they do pest control seasonally but you will still see them in your unit and frequently see the notice about extra pest control notice on the doors of your neighbors which mean they've found roaches in their units. It's not a surprise to see a picture of a mouse in the building posted by another resident.
I remember the first day I moved in, my unit wasn't ready with dirty spots and places that needed to be repaired. I had rented 7 different apartment units in the past, and this is the first apartment that I wasn't able to get my security deposit back but was charged for damage fees. It was a nightmare to live in...
Read moreStars are mainly for good location, amenities and dog parks, and free and plenty of parking. They also had an app you could use to communicate with other tenants and the leasing office, which was nice. However, my partner and I just moved out of this complex and there have been quite a few issues in the year we lived here. When asked if we want to renew our lease, the price went up +$200. We were paying about $1145 for our 1 BR apartment (including pet rent), and with utilities that price would go up to about $1250. Our lease renewal offer started at $1360, so we'd ultimately be paying close to $1500 for the apartment. The doors to our building were broken from Jan-Sept, so anyone could come into the building even if they didnât have a key. This was a big security concern especially since everyone else above the first floor didnât have a chain lock as extra security on our doors. I asked about these doors 2 or 3 times and they would just say they were going to be fixed but clearly that wasnât happening. There was an armed fugitive on the run in our neighborhood (specifically in an apt complex right across my building) 3 days later, the doors were all of a sudden fixed. Or so we thought. One door was fixed but the other still was missing a lock. There was a door but anyone can still come in. There seems to be issues with water in the other larger buildings (no hot water or no running water at all) which I would be very frustrated with if I lived in those buildings. Luckily my building was one of the 2 smallest ones that never seemed to have any issues. We can't refill our laundry card in the laundry room in our building. And where we do fill it, the machine doesn't take cash. They finally put a recycling dumpster for the complex then took it away a few months after. Iâm still not sure if there was more than one dumpster, but it didnât seem like it. This complex has 6 buildings. We have a regular dumpster right next to our building but there was no recycling there. The available one was two buildings over. They took away the recycling because it kept overflowing and causing a mess....well...what do you expect to happen with one available dumpster? Another issue is the Amazon hub locker room. This room did get revamped pretty nicely. You can store bikes and skis/snowboards here. However, there seems to be an issue with delivery drivers leaving packages out on the tables in that room when thereâs clearly a sign on the door that says not to do so. At least once a week I feel I received messages in our community app about packages being stolen or missing. Last issue: This is not the complexâs fault just on the tenants pretty much- when thereâs something in someoneâs mailbox that doesnât belong to them or they donât want grocery flyers, ads), instead of taking it with them to throw it away in their apartment, they just leave it on top of the mailboxes/on the floor. This is just super annoying and looks very untidy. Again, the location and some of the amenities are great, but the price to continue to live in a place where we felt unsafe and where there were a number of issues...
Read moreMy wife and I have lived here for a little less than a year, and we're looking for a new lease now. For prospective tenants, I'd like to share some pros and cons of our experience at The Lodge Apartments. Broadly speaking, the pros are the hardworking people here who keep the apartments in good shape, and the cons are the apartments and facilities themselves.
PROS The dog park here is one of the best in the Glendale neighborhood, and we've found a great community of people who have been willing to look after our pup while we travel or work late evenings. In addition to the pool, this is one of the best amenities, and if you've got a dog then this is a great benefit! The pool is very popular, and you can find folks hanging out and grilling all week. The weekends get pretty crazy but not too rowdy, and everyone is really welcoming and kind. Cornhole, BBQs, frisbee, and new friends is a nice way to spend the summer months. Maintenance is fast, and many of our issues were fixed same day or within a week. I think the two guys we worked with most were Darryl and Garrett (not sure of spelling), but these to fellas were the best. Thanks guys! Management is responsive, if a little heavy-handed, and we always enjoyed dropping into the office to talk to Krista, Shawn, and Devon - all very pleasant and kind people.
CONS Water, water, water. This property is fraught with water failures, flooding, and groundskeeping issues that make it very difficult to get any peace. From broken sprinklers spraying onto walkways and through open windows, to flooded common spaces and apartments (our neighbor had/has mold), to water usage outages - The Lodge seemed plagued with these issues with no end in sight. Our unit was in rough shape when we arrived, and although maintenance was quick to fix, it felt like most of the repairs should've/would've been caught in an inspection before move-in. Also, our A/C has never worked properly (during this summer, our unit has never been below 75 degrees and frequently over 80), but we've been told there's nothing that can be done to improve its performance. While we lived here (9/2018-10/2019) the apartments had ongoing construction projects including renovations, painting, landscaping, and new pavement. Although I appreciate that they're improving the space, it came with some quality of life costs: three flat tires from nail punctures in the parking lot, but also noise complaints, odd men right outside our window, last minute policy changes on parking/windows/etc. We also lost the trees/bushes outside our unit, which provided much needed privacy, shade, and color. Though certainly not an exhaustive list, I think this hits the need-to-know highlights for anyone considering this community...
