Avoid the service department at all cost
Last year I was told by service manager at Tec Portland that I have a leaking gear plate and that I would need to bring the truck for repairs before my warranty expires, because itās a very expensive job. Additionally to that my truck recently developed a noise coming from oil separator (check engine code was also indicating a problem with oil separator), and a vibration on 3rd position of engine brake. On September 15th I brought the truck to the Tec Equipment of Seattle because my warranty expires in December. A week later they finally took the truck for diagnosing. After diagnostics they decided that itās not a gear plate oil leak, but just upper timing cover leaking. I was also told that they were unable to find the oil separator noise and engine brake vibration. When I said that engine brake probably didnāt vibrate because they drove it bobtail, lady on the phone started showing attitude and said that next time I have to be really specific about when the vibration happens, and that they will try to diagnose it again when truck goes in for oil leak repair sometime beginning of next week.
At the beginning of next week truck was still in line. At the end of that week truck was first in line. On Monday of the following week truck for some reason moved from first to 5th place in line. After speaking with the service manager Patt they finally started working on it the next day. Few days later I was told that once they warmed the engine to operating temperature they were able to replicate vibration, and it needs new engine brake rockers. Before that, did Volvo Certified mechanics really think that drivers are using engine brake only bobtail and while the engine is cold? Also they said that pipe going to oil separator is damaged. When I asked how just a pipe can make such a noise, answer was that āthis is what the note from mechanic saysā. Now my truck is in line again, for rockers repair, because apparently truck gets back in line for each individual problem. The following week they did the rockers and at one point I was told that all the truck needs is a test drive. Few hours later I called and the truck was on quality check after test drive. At the end of that day I get an email saying that it needsā¦ā¦ a new oil separator. WHAT A SURPRISE! They weāre replacing that oil separator for another two days. It took them exactly four weeks to find the issue I stated all the way at the beginning and not even do the main problem why I brought the truck in, gear plate oil leak. I got my truck back on October 13th.
This is how Volvo āUptimeā service works. They donāt care about your time. Nobody cares that you lose hundreds of dollars every single day you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBad business! Lies and old cheap tricks. Won't keep any promises. They had a few leftovers, new 2020 Volvo with Cummins eng(end of September 2020,when 2021 are out for 6 months)with steer tires on drives and Chad told my friend $152k and will swap the tires with the right drives. He said will give a better price if buying 2 trucks. Knowing that Cummins offers a $5,000 rebate ,I believed in a "deal" so I sent my application for the "buy 2 deal".They've tried to give me a huge interest,(from 3 different landers)saying that Volvo did not find my commercial credit, after I have financed 2 of my 4 trucks with Volvo..and one I bought from TEC !!!š My buddy had approval from another dealer at 4.95%,my credit is better,I have no debt, and they offered me 14%,12% and over 10% !!! Yes,all dealers make a lot of money, adding points to the rate you get from lenders ! Aprox $5,000 for every point ! After I laughed at their offer, suddenly Volvo found my history and offered 7.99%. But the price went up..now $154,000 and they tried another trick, using the $5,000 Volvo offers as down-payment assist, invoiced the truck at 154k,minus $5k..but to take that would cost me $15k more than my friend in interest. When Chad realized I am not a fool he can play,he said he wouldn't be able to replace the wrong tires, then he emailed saying that they sold so many trucks and will sell the leftovers anyways, so he won't give any deal, the price is $152k. Old baite and switch scam..I am not surprised, as my first experience with TEC LA Mirada,Ca was bad as well..they had me sign a paper about my 30 days warranty, and the next page said "I understand I purchase this vehicle with NO warranty of any kind"..not signed. I do understand and know sales tactics, but decent dealers don't lie and at least when you have it in writing, you should be ok..at TEC,even what you have on paper, you might not have..If you are dumb or fool, bad credit..you are the perfect costumer for TEC..if you are informed, and in great shape financially, look for an honest dealer, TEC is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot sure how this place has anything over one star. We have been dealing with Tec for many years now and I will tell you as a professional transportation company nationwide, we have dealt with many shops and dealerships. If you are ok and willing to pay for guess work and parts you don't need then this is the place for you. Trying to get an itemized list of parts and labor? Good luck!
We took one of our Mack's into Tech recently for an over fueling issue. Initially, they told us that the injectors and injector cups were fine and they would continue to diagnose. We were then told that ALL! injectors and cups were bad! They then told us that the after treatment was completely bad and needed a whole new one. This was getting pretty expensive. We told them that we did not think it was any of that and the truck probably just had a bad injector.
We authorized the cups and told them to leave the after treatment alone. After installing the cups we were notified that the truck was still doing the same issue. Turns out Injector number six was bad. Just as we suspected! They Also tried to charge us for a complete after treatment system that they ordered without our approval. Even though we told them we did not want it. $9,000 and some change for a system we did not need!!
They did offer us a sweet deal though! $2,000 off if we took it. Just shows how much they mark that stuff up! We refused.
If you are a trucking company, and you cannot or will not afford to pay for guess work and throw a ton of money at a truck then this is not the place for you!!
P.S. They put a new starter on it!!!! The truck started just fine. Overall The original bill would have been $17,000 and the issue would not have been resolved. We are now into it $5,200 for parts and labor that was not necessary and we are still waiting to see the bill for...
