Don’t go to this location!!!!
I’ve always loved Habitat for Humanity ReStores and deeply respect the mission behind this organization. However, my experience at the Des Peres, MO location was extremely disappointing, and I feel compelled to share it.
From the moment I walked in, the attitude of the staff, particularly one lady, was shocking. My first encounter with her was when I asked about the price of a light fixture. She said it was $25 but insisted the tag must have been removed. She then took the light, stated it would be more expensive, and walked away with it, leaving me stunned by her dismissive and accusatory behavior.
I tried to shake it off, thinking she might just be having a bad day, and continued shopping with my family. My brother is building a home, so we had a list of items we were looking for. My sister found a smaller scroll saw marked at $25, which was perfect for her needs. There was a larger scroll saw priced at $40 next to it, but she preferred the smaller one. When I took it to the cashier to ask about testing the cord, the same woman came out and abruptly claimed it was priced wrong and said it wasn’t for sale.
At that point, I was floored. Her attitude was rude, unprofessional, and completely out of line. Her behavior was not only disrespectful but detrimental to the organization’s mission. My family and I had planned to spend quite a bit of money that day—over $100 from me alone—but we walked out because of her.
After leaving, I looked at reviews for this location and was shocked to see so many similar complaints about her behavior. It’s clear this has been an ongoing issue, and it’s sad to see how much business she’s driving away from such a worthy cause.
I never write reviews, but I felt it was important to share this experience to warn others and to bring attention to what’s happening at this store. I will never return to this location, and I hope the organization takes steps to address...
Read moreFirst, let me say I love the bargains you can find at Restore and as a retired clinical social worker respect the mission of habitat for humanity. This review focuses on the arbitrary, disrespectful treatment I received from the store manager ( who remained nameless to me throughout this Interaction ). On 04/29/18, my husband and I purchased a set of mirrored doors after first asking two workers in the door aisle ( who were stocking doors) the price. We we told the doors were a set with the included hardware bundled together with them. We then told the clerk at the register about the set and was instructed by her to get a dolly and bring them to the register for payment. We paid for the set and continued to shop. We were approached by this clerk stating" Im going to check with my manager about the price". Why she didnt do this before we paid we didn't understand. The manager stated that the set was priced separately ( however the hardware was bundled together) . My husband and I were treated like thieves and the clerk was told to refund us our money. We were humiliated as customers and staff observed the whole interaction. To quote President Nixon "I am not a crook". We were told the doors were a set before we brought them to the register . We explained to the clerk what we were told. We paid for the set. Overall, this was a very unsettling experience, we were made to feel like we had done something wrong or underhanded. I think any organization is only as good as the people who represent it. I dont think we, the customer should be held accountable for poor training of volunteers and staff by the Habitat for Humanity or the manager/ leadership that represents it. Caveat Emptor : Check all prices more than once to make sure they are not...
