I can't rate how the coffee tastes but I know that my experience was bitter, sour and disgusting. I came in for a cup of coffee on the recommendation of my work colleagues who had just come in several moments before. Spoiler alert!!! My colleagues are white. We were all in the area for a work event. When I walked in there were ZERO customers and only two men working at the front counter. Spoiler alert #2....they both were white. They were talking to each other behind the counter and did not look up to greet or acknowledge me. I stood facing them at the counter and said good morning to them. They still did not break the conversation to acknowledge my presence. I then proceeded to go use the restroom and wash my hands before ordering. When I returned to the counter from the restroom they were still talking and once again did not acknowledge my presence. I then made a call on my cell just to see how long (and how ridiculous this encounter would be). I stood there in front of them facing them with my phone to my face chatting with my mother and they did not bother to invite me to order or say hello. I recorded the ordeal at about 6 minutes (which does not account for the time I was there waiting then using the restroom before I hopped on a call) At that point I was convinced that I would never taste this coffee. I won't be back. If my white colleagues can walk in and come out with coffee in seconds and I can't walk in and even be greeted then this is not the place I want to spend my money and you should think twice about having people like this work at your front counter. I did not wear my invisible work suit that day nor is this the 1950's where only certain people can be served at counters. Get it together and hire people that reflect the beautiful diversity that Detroit has to...
Read moreVisiting friends in Detroit who recommended this place as a coffee stop after visiting Eastern Market across the street.
Three young female employees working at the coffee shop. The one taking orders at the cashier was fine at first. Placed my pour over coffee order, and I asked if she needed to put a name to the order, since i had heard names being called out for orders as they became ready. She responded âoh yeaâ and took down a name. Odd interaction. I went back in line after choosing to get a bag of coffee beans. Some of her friends came into the store and she basically paid me no attention as I stood in front of the payment area to get the beans as she was talking to her friends behind me. Finally she redirected her attention after a minute. Completed my second transaction. I continued to wait for my order. The girl making the espresso drinks seemed to push them out quicker than the pour overs, which was fine at first until I noticed me and the gentleman that order an iced tea before me had still not received our beverages until the cashierâs friends who order after my second transaction received their orders before us. I asked the staff about my order and helped the gentleman also check on his iced tea. The girl working the espresso machine decided to be rude and let us know the orders are being made. While there was only one pour over station, and can understand if it may get backed up, I also noticed the girl making them chatting with someone right behind the counter and further delaying the efficiency.
In summary, inattentive/rude staff, not efficient, but decent coffee. Donât expect too much when itâs run by unprofessional...
Read moreFINALLY! ESPRESSO ACTUALLY DONE RIGHT! I was raised in the Detroit area but have lived in Portland Oregon for the last 27 years. The splendid table called out Portland as the best city in the world for coffee and espresso. I was a barista in PDX for 12 years and quite honestly, my standard for what IS and IS NOT good coffee is almost unreasonable (only 5 shops in portland were up to my standards). But now I have moved back home to Detroit, and I've tried a half a dozen places leaving me with disappointment. Germack coffee however is doing it the right way. The Baristas are using the best techniques and based on the espresso I just got today their beans are pretty damn good too. As of today this is the best I have found in the entire Detroit metro area. Keep up the good work ladies, absolutely love what...
