I do not understand why this place was so highly rated, we had a frustrating experience. Waited in line for 10 minutes standing directly at the register with no one taking our order. I understand they may be busy with online orders but the four employees bustling around in front of us didn’t even acknowledge our existence for an uncomfortably long time. After ordering two separate hot chocolates for $15 (WOW EXPENSIVE) we waited another 30 minutes for our order. When we finally got the order it was cold and it wasn’t even made correctly. The staff offered to remake it but we didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes just to ultimately be disappointed. Tasted mediocre at best. I would not come back here and I would not recommend it to anyone else. Also, point of contention, they automatically add 20% gratuity AND have a tip jar AND ask you to add a tip on your card at the register. What exactly am I tipping for when the service is not friendly, not fast, and the product is not made well?

Wonderful cafe near the heart of downtown Durham. It's one is one of three locations in the area, each with it's own unique vibe and flavor. My visit was on a lazy, warm July afternoon. It was quiet with only about two or three other patrons scattered about. There was very little seating available inside. However, the large and shaded patio area have plenty of places perch. They did a lovely work to make this area inviting and cozy: expansive views of the Durham skyline in the distance and the beautiful blooming patio sunflowers are awesome. What made this visit extra special was the barista. He went out of his way to accommodating and friendly; taking the time to explain the menu and make suggestions. And since I was fairly new to the area, he spent time filling me on on the city particulars (weather, events, etc.). It's stellar service like this that makes loyal customers. I am definitely putting Cocoa Cinnamon my "must comeback" list...fabulous place.

I absolutely loved this place! I was passing through town and decided to stop after a friend who grew up in the area told me about it. The baristas were extremely friendly and the coffee was perfect. I got an iced Dr. Durham which had the right (imo) milk to espresso ratio and wasn’t too sweet! I’m seeing a lot of comments about how they dislike this place because they add 20% gratuity, but as someone who works in service as well please understand that this is what pays their bills. Most service industry jobs aren’t remotely close to being a livable wage, so before you trek out and get your favorite local coffee only to complain that a 20% tip was added, just keep in that in mind! Service workers are heros. In regards to the vibe, they had so many outdoor seating options either in the shade or in the sun. It made studying a lot less miserable. I wish I lived closer, this place rocks!

WHY so many awesome reviews? Do most people not know what good coffee is? This place is filthy and their lattes suck. Visiting the area for the first time & being a coffee lover, this place was raved about by friends of friends. There was a language barrier which made it really difficult to order. The woman at the register did not speak English very well at all and I have sensitivies & allergies so asking questions about certain ingredients and actually receiving a confident answer (response) proved to be more than difficult. The girls weren’t sure how much maca or how much matcha actually goes into the drinks & seemed unfamiliar with what exactly some of the contents of the lattes were which was irritating. After ordering an Oat Milk Dr. Durham I was excited to try the lava salt, ginger & vanilla concoction! I was SO disappointed. It tasted like oat milk. Not espresso with milk & all the other fun ingredients...just hot milk. I went to the counter And told her how plane it was and ask her if she had put any flavoring or salt in the latte at all. The girl added a little bit more vanilla and sprinkled ginger powder into the drink. First of all ginger powder? I don’t understand why you would even add Ginger if it wasn’t in a simple syrup or something a bit more potent. and told her how plain it was and ask her if she had put any flavoring or salt in the latte at all. The girl added a little bit more vanilla and sprinkled ginger powder into the drink. First of all ginger powder? I don’t understand why you would even add ginger if it wasn’t in a simple syrup or something a bit more potent. It still tasted BLAH. Wish I could get my 5.50 back :( This place is mediocre at most. Not impressed. And also....gross bathrooms. Not a fan of this place. I had to go starbucks afterwards just so I could get a decent latte. And I’m not a huge fan of corporate brands. Why’d you make me do that Cocoa Cinnamon? This place...

I may be one of the contrary opinions about how great this place is. Don't get me wrong, I go here whenever I'm downtown. It's not quite a coffee shop, not quite a tea House, and not quite a chocolate bar. It's somewhere in between all three, so they have limited options in each area which add up to plenty of options overall, if that makes sense. It used to be that they were effectively all three, and they had an extensive menu and you could ask for custom things without any issue. Now they have two chocolate drinks when they used to have probably a dozen about 5 years ago. Tea is very similar in that it's been greatly reduced over time. The portions are very small for the money, we're talking 10 ounces for $6 for a hot chocolate, and the same price for 12 oz of tea. They offer some baked goods from 9th Street bakery at this location, and they are often sold out by late morning. There is usually a line so you have to , which isn't bad but it definitely is something to account for if you are meeting someone or me to get somewhere after stopping by. As for the quality of ingredients and craftsmanship, it's top tier. At least from what I can tell. People enjoy working there, you're very friendly and helpful, and I appreciate any business that treats its staff well. Overall, anytime I go I do have a slight dissatisfaction and I don't know exactly why. As you can see, I can't really place it because it's a good company and they serve good products. My thinking is that it is a bit overpriced for what they offer, their seating is a bit limited, and the overall pairing down of their menu over time has bugged me...

I came here yesterday for the first time with my girlfriend and it was a regrettable experience.

The staff was not friendly at all. I did not get a single smile from them. I came here especially because of the great reviews I read... What a disappointment.

The service was really slow. It took us 10 minutes to get 2 cups of coffee. There were 3 people working there and 2 people in front of us in line.

The employees looked annoyed. I came here not only for the coffee but the atmosphere. The atmosphere set by this place was not one that I would come to again. I was very polite but the employees were not. They did not care about the delivery of a product that would be appealing and enjoyable. Instead, I got a cup of coffee that tasted like dirt and I would not doubt it if there was some dirt in there.

I say this because the store was dusty and the bathrooms were gross. I do not think that is a good combination to have because coffee makes you want to use the bathroom...

The place was really awkward. Everyone was being quiet. I do not think they had the music loud enough where people would be comfortable talking. I am a shy person so this did not work well for me.

We sat outside because the couches inside were filthy. It looked like they got them from a yard sale.

I would never come here again.

Normally I do not leave bad reviews for stores but I had to make an exception for this place because of how...
