The Papery — Local services in Edmonds

We visited the beach by the ferry terminal when my kiddo asked if we could ride the ferry. But since it was already 5pm I convinced him to get a toy that is worth what we would pay for the ride instead. The toy store on Main St was already closed by then but we still walked up from the beach to Main to see if any open store will have something interesting for him to purchase.

That's when we saw The Papery which by that time was 5 minutes away from closing. They let us in and graciously allowed us to explore the store past their closing time.

What a Christmas wonderland it was! From cards to wrappers, decor to scarves, there were so many pretty and Christmas-cheery items to buy. It made me regret not discovering the place much earlier when I was shopping for decor and gifts.

My kiddo was exploring and admiring the merchandise but not finding anything he'd want to buy until I discovered the little nook of stickers. He promptly squealed =) So we got several stickers for him, a flashcard of backyard bugs, and chocolates for us. We came out happily planning the next visit to the store.

The shop is currently filled with Christmas themed merchandise, with nautical themed items displayed in the lower level. Its a store suitable for adults and well behaved mobile kids as the aisles are narrow and there are two flights of stairs going down another level. If you have a stroller with you, prepare to leave it outside.

Felt the horrendous vibes from the cashier as soon as I stepped in and my kind greeting wasn't reciprocated, I don't even really care about all that. As a brown woman I've always understood that I cannot always control whether or not a store employee thinks I'm stealing or not so I try my best to be kind and respectful. After not even a minute of looking around, me and my partner didnt leave the cashier's sight and she even went to the extent of coming up to us just to peek into my bag. Its a cool store, wish I didn't feel so surveilled and uncomfortable by paranoid workers...
