I am normally all-in to provide good reviews, and very very hesitant to post a bad review, cause I am one of those people that thinks “if you have nothing good to say, just keep your mouth shut” however my experience here today was that bad that I couldn’t just ignore it. Came in for a brunch experience with my mother in law (visiting from abroad), my wife and 1-year old daughter. Starting with coffee, when ordering, we asked for ceramic cups as we were dining in, so we rather like having those than the to-go plastic cups. Well, when coffee was served we got the to-go cups. Not a biggy, I decided to go to the barista and asked her myself if I could have a couple of ceramic ones, and I would just move the coffee myself from one to the other at the table. Well, the barista didn’t like my idea. After I explained the details, I asked her if I could grab ceramic cups, she got a bit pissed and told me the cups they had were for 12 and 16Oz, and I had ordered 2x8Oz and 1x12OZ coffees… again, didn’t want to make a big deal of it and told her that if I could grab a couple of 12’s that would do the trick for my wife and in-law who really wanted the ceramic cups… I could just keep the plastic to myself cause, you know, I was chill… she then decided to tell me to do “whatever I want, to do” and didn’t offer the cups, when asked again a, she so told me to grab these myself.
Then food, we ordered banana panckakes, and 2 plates with poached eggs… well, while it took very long to get the food (approx 20 min) when it landed on the table these poached eggs were more liked boiled eggs (see picture). Both plates… at this point, rather than complaining and ordering again, I decided to go ahead with it and eat it… in reality just didn’t want to spend 20 more minutes waiting for food again. Then, we wanted to have an extra plate to share the pancakes across the 3 adults at the table.. went to ask for the plate, again the barista didn’t like the idea. Seems she was a bit swamped with work and well, I was interrupting her. She grabbed a plate, threw it on the counter and didn’t say a word. After I thanked her I went again to my table with the family. I am giving this 2 stars, instead of 1, because the banana pancakes were really really good. Other than that, I kind of didn’t enjoy my brunch on the day I took off from work to spend time with my family.
PS - I had visited this place in the past, and experience was more average. I’d say 3.5/5 rating but today was too...
Read moreUpdate: They are improving service wise, though they still seem to run out of a great deal of baked goods if you get there early to mid-afternoon which is unfortunate. Increased from one to three stars. Hopefully, the trend continues and I can update again and rate them five stars once again. I’m sure staffing is still a struggle as with many other businesses. For years, Red Twig was always our go-to place for breakfast, lunch, and, coffee/tea in Edmonds. A five star cafe all the way for their food and amazing staff, but something has happened. I don't recognize a soul and the last three times have been a huge disappointment. The first time, I thought it was a fluke, the case had only a few items in it and the kitchen was taking at least 30 minutes for menu items. It wasn't full, but there was a good crowd, so we figured that was the issue. I had brought 10 hungry cyclists with me that day, as I do a couple times a month.
The next time my husband and I stopped by on our ride. Again, there was a decent crowd, but far from full. Again, nothing in the case, so we went to the gelato place.
Today, six of us rode to Edmonds for lunch. We were famished and looking forward to lunch. When we arrived at about 1:15, there were only eight to ten diners, which struck us as odd. I don't think I've ever been to Red Twig and seen it that empty. We were told the kitchen was running 35-45 minutes for menu items. What? How long would the kitchen take if the place was full? We made do with cookies, pastries, and bagels which didn't come close to filling the void the way the menu items would have.
It was unfortunate as we were planning to bring two groups of cyclists (15-30) on one of our weekly rides, probably every six weeks or so. We decided we will have to move our food stop elsewhere. Very sad about this! I sure hope Red Twig figures things out and returns to its old self. It really was quite a jewel. If you do, please serve menu items until at least...
Read moreWell, it's so hard to rate because my French Toast was delicious and substantial. My bestie, who joined me on the other hand, ordered the veggie breakfast burrito. It was the size of a frozen burrito and was filled almost entirely with just eggs and cheese (even though the menu said it would include onions, beans and a few other veggies including a side of avocado). Instead her mini burrito only came with a side of sour cream and salsa and cold country potatoes. She went back to the register to ask about the avocado and the rest of the ingredients in her burrito. Three employees came to the register and argued with her that they had made it correctly. Their menu is giant and printed on the wall, where it clearly states the ingredients in her burrito... She told them, "I don't want you to make me another one, I would just like some onions and avocado and I can add it," which they begrudgingly agreed to. For $13, her burrito should have included everything that was listed on the menu and a warm (if not a hot) side of potatoes. And then when she approached them, they should have been more gracious about correcting the problem instead of defending themselves. This was my first visit. I was treating my friend to brunch and based off this experience, I will probably not go back. I went to their website to see if I could email them directly, but there was only a phone number listed, so I am leaving this...
