I have been shopping at this Home Depot over the last 12 years since I purchased my home in Ventnor. It's a 90 yo home, so the first two years, I went to the store weekly for supplies as I have been conducting all of my own renovations. My guesthouse renovation was scheduled prior to Covid-19 to start at the end of March.
What I found after shopping at a dozen Home Depots and half dozen Lowes from PA to NJ is that the Egg Harbor location is by far one of the best in customer service! The ladies at the desk and the check out clerks are extremely helpful and courteous, Tiriah, Halle, Kathy, Linda and others whose names I don't know. Tim and Dave from plumbing, Kyle, Brian, Manny, Nick, Joshua, and many others have helped me in the last two moths with my weekly/twice weekly trips to the store to pick up my online purchases and to load up the cinder blocks and concrete. Kyle is always so helpful and refuses to take my tip that I have to insisted he take.
The only negative remark that I have is in regards to an employee named Bob. When I asked for help to lift three 80lb bags of concrete off the shelf, he proceeded to ask me, "Who sent you here?" and said rudely something along the lines of "Normally people shop for what they can handle". It was a very demeaning and even sexist comment, because he implied that as a smaller woman, I should not be shopping in a store with large construction or heavy items. On the same shopping strip, I saw an elderly man ask for help with to load a grill, and two contractors ask for help with loading supplies into their truck, because every type of person needs help with loading sometimes, and I'm certain that the that same comment would not be directing toward these men. If I was asking Bob to do something that he did not have time for, or if it was not within his job description, he could have simply said he could not assist me, then I would find someone that would. Because more than one occasion shoppers in the store even offer to help that I don't always needed the help.
It's a good thing that Home Depot does not have many employees like Bob. It's also apparent that his reputation preceded him because when I recounted my experience to a lady (whose name I won't mention) at the customer service desk, she know exactly who that was and had less than kind words to describe him, further more, she also instructed me to speak to the store manager, which I did a the...
Read moreHorrible experience at this location. Let me add that i am a contractor & Pro Extra member & have been doing tens of thousands of dollars in business with Home Depot anually for over a decade in multiple states. Today, i go in to purchase lumber & wire fencing to do a small animal cage with my son which was a quality time project we looked forward to. Upon reaching the lumber isle there was as usual all of the lumber carts full of online orders & unavailable for walk in shoppers. There was 1 lumber cart in the center of the isle which had nothing on it, so i proceeded to use that cart as nobody was using it. Soon as i put my hand on it, an elderly black man "Richard" from the cashier area yells loudly "somebody is using that cart, don't move it!" In a very threatening manner which would be considered intimidating to most people. Really just ticked me off because Home Depot has had to stoop to hiring people with no social skills or ambition to walk 15 feet & explain politely the situation. Instead, we had the entire front of the store staring at us as if we were robbing the place! I approached the front to look for a lumber cart but there was none. I told my son we might have to go to lowes instead. An elderely & equally ignorant employee "Sharon goes over to "Richard" & mumbles in his ear pointing at my son & and kinda shews us away with her hand. At this point i walk back in & ask them to assist me find a lumber cart. The reply was that i have to check the parking lot.Sharon eventually wandered outside for 2 mins & said "they're all being used. A younger employe. did bring me a cart & was kinda shaking his head as if he was irritated with his coworkers. I asked Richard what his name was & the other lady who seemed to view my son and i as peasants not welcome in her store. He proceeded to tell me & walked away indifferently. This is the type of situation that can cause businesses to lose customers who have been faithful for years. I realize that finding employees at this point is difficult, but from a customer standpoint, i would rather walk into Home Depot & see no employees versus having not 1 but 2 employees degrade me & piss me off!! I'm quite certain nothing will be done as i contact corporate, but hopefully they will eventually look into their people skills assessment when hiring. If not, i will take all of my business...
Read moreVery poor customer service. Went here to buy appliances, ended up going to Lowes to shop because of the nightmare treatment! The associate working in appliances needs to learn how to listen and how to respond to a customer's request. Right now I am at Lowes across the street setting up a quote for the purchase of the washer, dryer and refrigerator that I was going to purchase at Home Depot in Egg Harbor. I did call corporate to voice my concerns about the experience. It's a shame as I prefer Home Depot but they sure do not care about treating customers right in this store. I will give corporate one day to figure this out before I finalize the Lowes order.
UPDATE: Within an hour I received a call from Matt, the manager on duty, Corporate contacted the store manager who contacted the store to have them contact me. May be resolved within a day. Will find out soon.
2nd UPDATE: Forget about it being resolved. I talked to Matt, an assistant store manager, told him I would come back in since he PROMISED to make it right. I ordered the 3 appliances the next day. I then received notification that my delivery would be between 1:30 and 5 PM on 31 Oct.
Well, it is now 31 Oct, it is now 6:32 PM as I type this and I do not have any appliances. Called customer care, they were worthless. They put me in touch with a person in millwork. Yea, I guess this store has no managers on duty or managers at home that can handle a phone call.
From the store manager on down, this store is an absolute disaster. They do not care about you, they do not know what customer care is all about, all they want is to take your money and then the heck with you.
I am so sorry that I did not rely on my instincts and go somewhere else. I am sure that no other store could provide such absolute horrible to an individual as...
