This place used to be one of my family and I’s favorite place to grab breakfast. We hadn’t been back in years following Covid, but we decided to eat there a few days ago. We were all super excited because it had been a while. Well that all went South real quick. My pregnant sister and father walked in with DD coffees. (Pregnancy craving for my sister) and by the way she’s 37 weeks pregnant so you can’t not tell she’s pregnant. Anyway, point is that the second we walked in we felt like we had all eyes on us. Made us feel very weird and even creeped out. Even people from the kitchen were staring. Weird right? Anyway, we sat down at our choice of booth because a server told us to pick. A guy came and just threw menus on the table for us. Didn’t even say hi, or your server will be right with you. Nothingggggg. Just threw them on the table and walked away. LOL I’ve worked in the restaurant industry and know that is not right, but hey you don’t need to work in a restaurant to know proper manners. Anywho, about 2 mins later, 2 other tables sat down as well. (AFTER us) within a few short mins, their servers were already there greeting them and asking them for their drink orders :) I found it weird that we had sat down first and no one had came to us other than the guy who just threw menus at us and left. Okay, so moving on, a server passed our table and I remember locking eyes with her.. kinda like giving her the look of “Hello we are here too”… but no she instead went and talked to another lady (Assuming she’s a waitress too) and then that lady came to our table and in a very rude tone said (Mind you again no hi no nothing, just went straight to her point) “yall can’t have outside drinks in here” while pointing at their drinks. My sister had a small size drink. She then said, “There’s a sign posted at the front.” And my dad immediately said, “Oh, we’re sorry we really did not see the sign.” (Now it made sense why everyone including the kitchen stared at us). She saw my sister was pregnant and I don’t mean to make it sound like she gets a pass to break rules just because she’s pregnant but God damn the drink was a size small and she was almost done with it.. but to each their own. Anyway, she then (in a nasty tone again) starred at us and said “Well what do you want to do?” And we said we were leaving and she took the menus before we even got up lollll. It’s not about WHAT you say, it’s about HOW you say it. Of course everyone stared at us again when we walked out :) another creepy and weird moment. If the sign was posted there (not assuming it wasn’t) but why did no one stop us at the front? Why did the server herself speak to us and tell us to choose our own seats? Well it made sense, she’s the same server I locked eyes with later on. She didn’t know how to tell us so she went and told Mrs. Grumpy pants. Oh man, when will people understand that your kindness can make or break your business? We were so exited to eat there but left super disappointed. And we are minorities so the fact that they served those two other tables which were white people, before even coming to us.. (and I heard the guy who threw our menus and left, greet their tables and asked for their drinks) only makes one think about racism. Man oh man was that such an uncomfortable experience. She could have easily said if you want you can finish it outside and re enter but again, it was her nasty attitude that made us leave. But, then we went to another restaurant where we were treated absolutely amazing. Amazing staff, friendly staff, and even friendly customers. Man did we love the fact that that happened to us because we ended up having a great breakfast at a great spot that actually knows how to treat everyone equally and with respect. So to the “Local’s Spot”, it’s unfortunate you guys run the place the way you do. Disgusting, to say the least. Do not recommend...
Read moreMy wife and I have lived in the area for a long time and have been coming to Caroline's (The Local's Spot now) for years. It's one of the amazing watering holes in SP and the surrounding area. We stop in a couple times a year for a happy hour cocktail. We always enjoyed the setting and atmosphere. It's a little "divey" but in a good/friendly kind of way. The issue has always been the food. Inconsistent would be the nicest way to put it. Because of that, Carolines to us was just good for drinks on the deck. Well Friday afternoon changed our opinion real quick. First, their accommodations for COVID are good. Open space and a good amount of seating on the deck and parking lot. Maria our food server was great. We weren't planning to eat there but Maria told us about the new owner/chef and described some of the different menu items so we decided to give it a shot. Our bartender, think her name was Stephanie (long dark hair) came from behind the bar to our table to take our order. She was super cool and very engaging even though she was slammed... Made a primo Moscow Mule for my wife. The food was fantastic. Granted the menu is mostly bar food, but it has some tasty sounding options. It's like gourmet bar food. Don't laugh. The Pig Wings are stupid! Fell right off the bone and the sauce was amazing. Cheese curds had some bite and were cooked perfectly. My wife and I shared a huge burger that was delicious . The portions were large and well worth the price. Had plenty to take home. We watched other items being delivered to other tables that looked really good. Last but not least, the owner/chef Kyriakos G. came to our table to greet us and he was as gracious as can be. Warm, friendly, and sincere. You can tell he loves seeing people devouring his creations. Let's make sure we support and keep this guy and his employees in business. We'll be hitting The Local's Spot more often now for the food... And the drinks. Keep up...

Specials are great, breakfast homefries are like my Mom used to make and you can't find around here! There's an early morning special that's crazy cheap but we never make it. Pricing is perfect! Coffee is real coffee grounds not that instant (snap in a plastic cartridge if coffee concentrate) stuff many places (read Gilchrist & others) are changing over to to 'save a wasted pot'.. Coffee drinkers want real, good quality coffee.
Sandwiches are huge and all the meats are freshly cut per sandwich. Delicious turkey! Friendly staff who feel like family.
Pros: cute hidden dining room in the back...it's almost hidden. Super clean diningroom & bathrooms. Tons of vegan choices.
Cons: don't care for mayo. I suggest to upgrade to a name brand. Other then that, nothing but greatness here! Super friendly...
