Mama Lee's Gourmet Popcorn — Local services in Elgin

First of all, this is a small business. It's what makes towns like Elgin run well and have its own personality. That being said. It is a wonderful and beloved addition to Elgin's downtown. If you are craving popcorn, but don't want that gross microwave stuff, Mama Lee's is where you need to be. There are so many different flavors that can be made here: PB&J, Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Drizzle, Honey BBQ, and a whole lot more! The cheesy popcorn is always a safe bet, but my personal favorite is the Elgin mix which is a combo of the caramel pop with a Parmesan garlic pop (yes... I know, it sounds pretty weird if not gross when you first hear it, but trust me on this one, its worth trying.... and then buying). I tell everyone I know to try this place because the quality is good, the flavors are terrific, and the people are "Poptastic!" The owner is friendly and courteous. He is invested in this community and the youth in this area. He specifically wanted to open a business in this town to help the town and better the community. One of my clients brought me a gift today. It was a large tin of three kinds of popcorn from Mama Lee's in Elgin. I told her that my husband would love it because he is a huge flavored popcorn fan. We opened it tonight and HOLY COW! This is not your average flavored popcorn that you get in the big tins at Walmart. The quality is "off the charts." It tastes fresh instead of full of preservatives, and the cheese flavored popcorn did not taste like what I am accustomed to, you know, the popcorn coated in ? that tasted enough like cheddar that you ate it. I am impressed. It was delicious! My favorite though was the one that I think she said was "Elgin Blend." YUM! Thank you Drew and Kimmi Shedivy for such a thoughtful gift. I will check to see if they send out mail orders for Christmas gifts next year. I was soooo upset when I found out I couldn’t get my favorite mix anymore because my old popcorn lady retired, BUT, she emailed me with great news, and said she’d happily let the people know at Mama Lee’s know about my favorite mix (The Voodoo Mix), and to just give them a call. Of course, I was a little nervous calling a new place who probably never even heard of such a thing, but when I said who I was and who referred me, they greeted me back as if I was an old friend. And that was even after I waited about 3 weeks to work up the guts to call! The customer service is out of this world, they had 2 large bags (and their large, is REALLY LARGE) ready for me 3 days later and that was because I could not make it in sooner. I had went and picked it up at the Springhill Mall location and met the owner and his brother...once again, nicest people ever!! I cannot say enough about this place. And I certainly can’t wait to do more business with them and try...
