Zumiez — Local services in Emeryville

Shocking behavior from store staff around 5 p.m. yesterday. From previous visits, I expected attentive, helpful, and friendly service.

This time, I entered what appeared to be an unstaffed store while looking for a last-minute birthday gift. After realizing I couldn’t find anything quickly, I turned to leave. As I crossed the exit, someone from inside shouted, “Stealing!” I hadn’t touched anything and was clearly dressed professionally. I turned back to clarify the accusation and found two young male employees sitting near the entrance with sour expressions. When I asked who said it, neither responded — instead, the heavier one tried to intimidate me, saying, “You trippin’? You good?” They continued dismissively: “You’re tripping, get out.”

Upset, I went to Pandora, where I was helped and found a nice gift, but the incident lingered. Working in retail myself, I value professionalism and respect — this was the opposite. I later returned to the store, where the same employees mocked me, saying, “I’ve never met a male Karen,” and the larger one claimed to be the manager.

Accusing a well-dressed returning customer of theft, then responding with mockery and intimidation, is incredibly unprofessional. This reflects poorly on the store’s culture and management oversight. These employees lacked maturity, judgment, and respect — both for customers and the business itself.

Not sure why everyone under-rates this store as it is simply amazing. At first I called to ask at what time they closed as we were stuck in traffic coming from San Francisco and they said it wouldn't be a problem keeping the store open for me. They even went the extra step and asked me what I was interested to buy and reserved the board for me until when I arrived. Once at the store, the customer service was incredibleincredible, helping me select bearings and grease for the board. They brought everything to the cashier to checkout for me. Even after the purchase they came outside with me to see if I like the board and even gave me recommendations on tightening the trucks. Overall this is a great store with incredibly open and kind staff. The staff definately...

I just want to come on here and say how thankful I am to the two gentlemen who were working on 10/28/2021 at around 7:30pm. While I was shopping in the store , a guy came up to me and started hitting on me and I told him no about 10 times and I started getting scared for my life because this guy wouldn’t take no for an answer and they realized I was scared and helped me and got the guy off my back. I was seriously scared for my life and I’m still spooked and I don’t know what I would have done if they weren’t working that night!...
