This review is for our upcoming experience at Red Door in Emeryville with Evelyn, and I already know it’s going to be absolutely spectacular. Even before our visit, Evelyn has demonstrated an unparalleled level of care and attention to detail that deserves to be recognized. Planning an outing when you have a family member who is immunocompromised can be stressful, but Evelyn has already gone above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our booking is handled with thoughtfulness and precision.
One of the most impressive things Evelyn has done is guarantee that both of our private bookings will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before our arrival. It’s not every day that you encounter someone who takes such proactive steps to prioritize the health and well-being of their guests. Evelyn’s willingness to accommodate our needs and provide that extra level of reassurance has already made us feel comfortable and cared for, and we haven’t even stepped through the door yet! Her commitment to excellence is evident, and it’s clear that she takes great pride in ensuring every guest has the best possible experience.
I have no doubt that our time at Red Door tomorrow will be unforgettable, thanks to Evelyn’s dedication and kindness. It’s rare to find someone so genuinely attentive and considerate, and it makes all the difference when you’re looking for a safe, welcoming environment. I’m already looking forward to our visit, and I’m grateful for Evelyn’s efforts to make it a memorable and worry-free experience. Red Door is fortunate to have such an outstanding team member, and I can’t wait to recommend both the venue and Evelyn’s incredible service to friends and family after what I’m sure will be an...
Read moreWe generally love Red Door Escape rooms. We've completed almost all of the Bay Area/Sacramento locations games (except for Emeryville), along with a handful in other states. This was somewhat disappointing. Rev, our game master, was doing his best as the only employee covering multiple games, and he was a lot of fun, but the room itself was a let down. There were multiple elements in The Relic that were not properly maintained: the lantern was a bit dim and finicky, one puzzle was opened when we entered (apparently a loose element, which was a known issue), and two elements that required use of specific senses were not maintained (I'm being deliberately vague, so I don't ruin the puzzle for someone else, but we were told one would be refreshed and the other was due to other game players messing around with things). I understand this can be a lot to maintain, but careful maintenance of puzzle elements and a good reset are crucial when their accuracy is necessary for the completion of a room. Whether we won or lost is up for debate as we did correctly analyze some items - but they were incorrectly labeled, which led to us not finding the right solution in time. That was such a let down. These are the sorts of errors we would expect on the first week or two of a new room, not a year into a new location. (It would also have been fun to have this puzzle expand into additional rooms, not nooks, but I imagine the building just doesn't have enough space.) The experience overall was kind of a bummer, since we love Red Door Escape Rooms in general and were so excited at the prospect of new...
Read moreI've been to several Red Door locations, and in general, they are reasonably good escape rooms. Not the best of the best, but not too far behind either.
The Emeryville location is reasonably new and they did things differently here. All but one of their rooms are SINGLE-ROOM escape rooms. This is highly disappointing.
We went to a room there, and it was nice, but we finished it in half the time and said "Wait, that's it?". This should have been a 30-minute room at half the cost.
We kept waiting to unlock another room and when that never happened, it left us feeling cheated and disappointed.
I'm not sure that I will be going back to this location. Their single-room escape rooms are not what we are looking for in an escape room, and there are far better options in the Bay area.
Edit: New PSA - The Oakland/Emeryville location's "Declassified" room is almost identical to the rest of the chain's "Prison Break" rooms. Declassified has a slightly more modern look, but the puzzles are about 80% identical, so if you've already done one, you will likely be disappointed doing the other. They should have kept the same name so as not to fool people into thinking that it's a new experience. If you've never done either, then you'll be happy with either one - but if you do both, you may...
