Beware! The owner of MoJo and her girlfriend are bigoted and will refuse service based on looks and what medicines a person choices to consume.
I had such a disappointing experience at MoJos that I feel compelled to write my first ever review. I had just got back into town after a long drive from Phoenix and was really looking forward to a nice meal with my partner. I am an avid fan of music and when I saw the menu for MoJos I was sold. Music and food? I was excited to support a local shop and especially one that supports vinyl.
Before my partner and I went into MoJo we decided to smoke legal cannabis (which can be purchased at a shop right around the conner) across the street at a public park. After standing outside and deciding what we wanted we walked in only to be attacked the second we did. This person ran at us, pushed us out of the store and said, we do not allow dogs and we require shoes. First of all, these are both normal requests to make. My girlfriend does not wear shoes as a religious practice and we always have our dog with us. The dog will wait outside the door if she is not allowed into a place and my partner will push shoes on if it is required by an establishmey. This is not a problem for most establishments, especially here in Eureka Springs and if it isn't okay most people are very nice about it as they want our business.
After being rejected and pushed out of the store I stopped, collected myself and went back in the store. I had shoes and I did not have the dog so I was respecting there rules now. I just wanted to have a reasoned conversation and let them know we did not mean disrespect. I barely got a word out before this woman ran across the store to slam the door shut on my arm and yell that I was not welcome. Never in my years have I experienced this level of anger from someone in the service industry. It is to bad because my partner and I like to visits downtown often and are exited to support the local businesses.
Through a response to my partners review, we found out that the lady who attacked us was the owner girlfriend and the owner was standing behind the counter watching the whole thing. She is either afraid of her girlfriend (I probably would be in her situation) or she sent her attack dog after us. She admitted to discriminating against us because we smoked cannabis. I hope they don't find out that most people who are into music like cannabis. Needless to say, I will not be going back to MoJos and I will do everything I can to make sure the community knows not to come to MoJos if you are stoned, have the munchies and want to...
Read moreI'm happy Eureka Springs has a record store at all. The woman at the counter was cordial to a certain point.
My MoJo shopping experience was indicative of the rest of my day in Eureka Springs overarchingly. That town has morphed into something which I no longer recognize, having traveled there many times since early childhood. It always had a magic, regardless of my age. But my lack of affinity for people endlessly wearing their fluted flags on their every single thing presents a proper lens through which my words here could be considered or understood.
Since I support everyone in their being good men, women, boys and girls and especially when they own a record store of any kind - I decidedly purchased a used vinyl from MoJo's for twice what it will ever be worth. This is a town bent on tourism, so do not expect prices to be low. Sadly, I cannot say that I was hugely impressed with Mojo's but, like I have said, I'm no longer impressed with...
Read moreAs a child, my record player was one of my prized possessions. I’d forgotten about all the hours spent listening to records, digging through my parents collection, and all the memories associated with records. Then I walked into Mojo’s. I bought a starter record player and some albums from them. It wasn’t long before I needed a legit record player because I was finding so many gems at their place and my little player didn’t do them justice. I’ve always wanted a jazz collection and thanks to them I have it. I also was able to get my favorite record from them (they had to really work to find it). The icing on the cake is B-Side and the local beer selection, both best enjoyed on their deck. The owners of both businesses are awesome humans who truly love their community. I am so grateful our town...
